Listen, if you're not rocking a turret at your desktop, then you're simply not taking computer security seriously enough. You're letting the terrorists win, along with Henry from accounting who's always poking his nose into your cubicle when you're off on a coffee break. A password protected screen saver keeps nosy Nellies at bay, but if you want to send a clear message that your work space is off limits, you need to bring out the big guns. The Portal 2 Sentry Turret USB Desk Defender is one such option. Yes, it's forty bucks at ThinkGeek, and that's kind of expensive for a novelty toy, but it's... Read more...
There's no such thing as a geek who has everything, but that doesn't always make it easy to shop for the geek who has most things. If you keep your eyes peeled, however, you'll find it's possible to score a gem every now and then. One example is the batch of retired World of Warcraft servers Blizzard auctioned off earlier this year, one of which we managed to snag (view our photo gallery tour). If you missed out, you'll have another chance to score a geeky item later this year when Gaming Heads kicks off its officially licensed Portal 2 statue line with a standard model Aperture Sentry Turret in... It's still just the beginning of December, but now that we've made it past Thanksgiving and have had time to let all that turkey settle in our bellies, it's time to go shopping for gifts. And just in time for the holiday shopping season, ThinkGeek just announced the availability of nine officially licensed Portal 2 products, including a Portal Companion Cube Cooke Jar and a Portal 2 Plus Turret with Sound. Those are rad, and so are some of the other items up for grabs, including: Aperture Laboratories Shower Curtain Portal Cookie Cutters Portal Bookends Wheatley LED Flashlight Portal 2 PotatOS... Steam has become an important launch point for all modern PC games but it's concentrated on titles that were sold as discrete products. As of this week, that's changed--the company has announced that it's adding support for multiple free-to-play games. F2P games offer free access to much of the game, but use microtransactions to fund the purchase of extras. Said extras can variously take the form of new areas to explore, weapon upgrades, power-ups / unique abilities, and in-game currency. The exact options depend on the title in question, but the system is designed to offer an immersive, enjoyable... Read more...
Razer's more typical controllers are easy to describe: mice, keyboards and joysticks usually comprise the company's line. But the Hydra is something entirely different. It's a new set of motion sensing controllers, and while they were announced first a few months back, they're just now being put on sale. Naturally, the timing here is perfectly place; they'll be available as a standalone product or alongside Portal 2, which is storming the digital shelves right now. Razer worked closely with Valve and Sixense to build these, particularly the exclusive Portal 2 content that showcases the power of... Read more...
Portal 2. By this point, you've probably heard just about enough of Valve's upcoming mystery / brain-twister, but if you aren't a hardcore PC gamer, you may be wondering if there's anything out there for you. Lucky for you, there is. Portal 2 for PlayStation 3 has just been detailed, with the parent company detailing the Steam launch details for the PS3 version. The PS3 version will launch alongside the PC version as the first title to support Steam on a console. That's a pretty big, monumental step in the gaming universe, and it sets up a realm where cross-platform matchmaking, gameplay, friends,... Read more...
Well, one thing is for sure. If Valve doesn't sell a ton of Portal 2 copies, they'll be in debt for advertising for quite some time. The company is really going all-out. There are entire city buses in places like Chicago where vinyl wraps for the game are covering public transportation, and the company has obviously spent a lot of time creating promotional videos to pump things up from a viral standpoint. We won't even pretend to think that we aren't playing right into Valve's hands here, but hey -- when you make promo videos that are this hilarious, who cares how many people see it? In case you're... Our preview of Valve’s upcoming puzzle-platformer Portal 2, at PAX East this past weekend, proved to be quite popular. If you liked that preview, you’re definitely going to get a kick out of this one. Valve just gave us early access to a new Portal 2 TV spot that is about as cool a commercial as you’re ever going to see... If that doesn't make you want to get your sci-fi geek on, we don't know what will.  Valve wants you to pre-order now at http://thinkwithportals.com.   You do what you gotta do or wait it out until release -- which is soon obviously. * Note to... We spent some time at PAX East today, checking out the sights and sounds on the show floor and have some fun stuff to show you, courtesy of the good folks at Valve. Valve was showing off some in-game footage from the highly anticipated puzzle-platformer Portal 2, due to hit store shelves and Steam next month... Fans of the original Portal will no doubt recognize some of the gameplay elements, but the visuals have been enhanced significantly and some new items like the blue Repulsion Gel (among others) are being introduced. And of course, like the original, there are plenty of laughs to go around... Read more...
