The tech press is making a big stink about the upcoming Apple Watch, a device that will start at $349 (Apple Watch Sport, 38mm aluminum casing) and top out at $17,000 (Apple Watch Edition, 38mm 18-karat gold casing, with Bright Red Modern Buckle). Apple is definitely excited about the smartwatch, with design Guru Jony Ive giving rare interviews that talk up the development of Apple’s newest product line. However, in a new poll conducted by Reuters, it seems as though many Americans are rather “meh” when it comes to the Apple Watch. According to the Reuters/Ipsos poll, 69 percent of Americans have... Just as tires and wheels aren't the same thing, the World Wide Web (WWW) and Internet are also separate, albeit just as intertwined. If you already knew that, pat your self on the back or grab a cookie -- you're in the minority, according to a Web IQ quiz conducted by Pew Research in which just 23 percent of respondents correctly selected (or guessed) "False" when asked if the Internet and WWW are the same.In stark contrast, 83 percent of respondents were able to correctly identify Bill Gates as the technology leader portrayed in a photo. It's the question with the least amount of wrong answers,... Read more...
After the passing of Steve Jobs, there was a huge question mark surrounding Tim Cook's ability to lead Apple and fill the shoes worn so successfully by the company's co-founder. And what has he done since then? Cook has continued to navigate Apple towards obscene quarterly profits, and even when investors worry themselves silly over sales estimates and product rumors, the company still lines their pockets. On the consumer side, Apple is still seeing success as well. Under the first full year of Tim Cook's leadership, Apple took home repeat Brand of the Year distinctions in three categories from... Seen one of those fancy new Surface commercials? How about one of Microsoft's vivid new retail stores? In an age where tech-savvy is becoming the norm, and catching people early is a way to ensure brand loyalty throughout a life, Microsoft seems to be doing fairly well according to a new report. A Reuters/Ipsos poll found that just under half of 853 respondents between the age of 18 and 29 viewed Microsoft -- the company responsible for Windows 95, the Zune, the Kin, the Xbox, Office, and even the Surface RT -- is hipper now than it was just a year or two ago. That may strike some as surprising.... Read more...
There are a few facts of life for Americans: life, death and taxes. Outside of those, here are a few more facts gathered by a new survey conducted on behalf of Duracell. The IPSOS poll found that Americans love gadgets and parents in particular have more electronic devices in their households than the general adult population, with 75% of parents relying on mobile devices to "help them accomplish things they need to do during the day." With the explosion in popularity surrounding smartphones (and cellphones in general), that's not a shocker. But the 75% number may be. What fascinates us about this... Read more...
It seems we can't go a month without talking about privacy concerns surrounding one of today's popular social networking sites. Whether it's a new Facebook setting or other security breach, keeping one's private information private isn't always easy. A recent poll by the Marist Institute for Public Opinion claims that half of all US residents who use a social-networking site are concerned about privacy. Of this group, close to half describe themselves as very concerned. As one might expect, fears concerning privacy increased as the age of survey respondents went up: only 43 percent of respondents... When you think of Apple's iPad, you probably think of a large iPod touch, or maybe a portable e-mail machine for your couch. Or maybe you think of something that you'd love to have if it only supported Flash and Hulu. Or maybe you think it'd be a great replacement for a netbook. But would you consider it seriously for work? That's the question that a Sybase survey recently asked, and evidently more people than not consider that the iPad would be useful for helping them to get work done. That's sort of amazing to us; one of the biggest issues we saw on the iPad was the inability to multi-task, despite... Read more...
Including room and board, it now costs over $50,000 per year to attend Stanford University. That's a lot of cash to cough up to send your son or daughter to the second ranked university in the world (according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities), but money well spent when you consider your offspring will be tackling the tough issues, like iPhone addiction.Huh? Believe it or not, a new Stanford study set out to discover just how attached college kids are to their Apple-inspired smartphone, and as it turns out, the results are pretty creepy.Out of the 200 students with iPhones who participated... Here's some news you just won't believe: on average, people spend more time on the Internet now than they did in the past. Shocking, isn't it?! A new Harris Poll has found that adult Internet users are now online an average of 13 hours per week, though the actual usage of those surveyed varies rather significantly. 20% of adult users are online for only two hours or less per week, while 14% are spending 24 hours or more per week. The results are being calculated from a telephone poll of 2029 adults between July 7th and 12th and October 13th and 18th, and the best part of this is looking at how... Read more...

With all of the recent hype surrounding Apple's iPhone, it seems more and more people are ditching, or at least thinking about ditching, their basic, 'mono-tasker' mobile phones in favor of multifunction SmartPhones.  And although Apple has clearly been getting the lion's share of press coverage lately, there are a ton of other popular SmartPhones out there ranging from inexpensive Treos to the ultra expensive Nokia N95. So, what we want to know is this.  If you were buying a new SmartPhone today, which one would it be?  There's a new poll posted in the upper-right corner of the site.  Vote there... Read more...
Hello everyone.  We want to direct your attention to a new poll we're conducting, regarding monitor size.  Now that LCD prices have come way down and relatively large, high-resolution screens are within reach for more and more consumers, we wanted to see how many of you have taken the plunge and splurged on a large display - or maybe even multiple smaller displays.  You can vote at the top right of the page.  Thanks!... Evenin' folks and happy Friday to you.  I've taken down the memory poll here and replaced it with a new poll.  It seems the folks at OCZ saw fit to stack the numbers a bit and send folks from their site to ours, just to vote in the poll.  Now, we do agree OCZ does manufacture some quality product but we know for a fact that Corsair specifically was firmly in the lead for weeks in that poll, until very recently. The intent of our poll here is to help profile your interests as an end user, so we can know what companies/products to focus on in the months ahead.  Sending people... Read more...
