In addition to the Sony a35 camera we showed you earlier, Sony is also adding a new compact camera to its lineup. According to Sony, the new NEX-C3 is the world’s smallest, lightest interchangeable lens camera with an APS-C sized sensor. This camera comes in a range of colors and offers DSLR-like quality in a compact model. The camera weighs approximately 8 ounces and features a 16.2 megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor. Panasonic released the newest addition to its Lumix line of high-end compact cameras. The new Lumix DMC-FX75 is a 14.1 megapixel shooter with a 24-120mm ultra-wide-angle f2.2-f5.9 lens and a 5x optical zoom. This camera can also record 720p HD video in the AVCHD (Advanced Video Coding High Definition) Lite format. Other features include a 3-inch touchscreen interface that controls most of the camera functions, a new Motion Deblur mode, Intelligent Zoom mode, and a so-called Happy Mode which increases the saturation and brightness of images in-camera. Canon is expanding its series of PowerShot Digital ELPH cameras with the new PowerShot SD4000 IS Digital ELPH. The PowerShot SD4000 IS is a powerhouse point-and-shoot camera that has high definition (HD) movie-shooting capabilities, a DIGIC 4 image processor, and a 10-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor. You knew that Samsung, Sony, FujiFilm, Canon and Nikon made cameras, but did you know that the same company that makes kitchen appliances and medical systems does as well? General Imaging, which is the exclusive licensee of GE digital cameras, has just debuted a slew of new compact cameras at the PMA 2010 camera expo in California, and all of them fall within the bargain realm. Need more camera news? PMA has it. Samsung has remained a steady and solid competitor in the point and shoot market, and while they have thus far stayed an arm's length away from the highly competitive DSLR market, some of these new cameras could very well replace a low-end DSLR for someone who doesn't need the option of swapping out lenses. Casio announced four new point and shoot digital cameras at CES 2010. The high speed EX-FH100 boasts of a maximum burst rate of 40 shots per second at a "reduced" resolution of 9 megapixels with a 30 shot maximum. This 10.1 megapixel camera also has a wide-angle 24 mm 10X optical zoom lens and up to 1,000 fps high-speed movie recording. Samsung announced its new NX10 hybrid DSLR which attempts to give you all of the image quality of a full-fledged DSLR in a more compact form. This 14.6 megapixel camera has an APS-C-sized CMOS sensor and a 3-inch AMOLED display that promises lower power consumption, a wider range of viewing angles, and better contrast than LCD technology. Earlier this year, Panasonic, Fujifilm, and Canon announced rugged cameras that could withstand drops, water, and much more. When these models were announced, we couldn't help but notice that Casio was absent from the list, especially since the company has its own G-SHOCK brand that already offers shock-resistant timepieces and a water-resistant mobile phone. Don’t be fooled by the Nikon Coolpix L100’s DSLR-like looks.
