As if there wasn't enough drama in the tech world this week, Microsoft has come forward to announce a special event for next month, the 12th. Verizon Wireless is planning to introduce two new phones from Microsoft in May or June according to sources familiar with the matter. The new phones will target teenagers and will offer easy access to social networking sites and keyboards for text messaging. Reports claim the phones will be made by Sharp and will have the Microsoft and Verizon Wireless brands. A Microsoft-branded phone is a new move for the company; until now, Microsoft has focused on providing the Windows Mobile software to phone manufacturers rather than selling a model under its own brand. After hearing that Sony's only dedicated PlayStation Store in America would be closing up this year, the company has come forward with a barrage of new material for its PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable consoles. Hewett Packard must have IBM envy. They've purchased Ross Perot's old technology services company, Electronic Data Systems,  for $13.2 billion, so they can claim to be the second place provider of such services to businesses and government, behind IBM.  As usual, the first rule of Takeover Club is: you're fired. It's a field dominated by IBM, which generated $54 billion in revenue from technology services last year. There is no official report from AMD on the wires, but multiple news outlets are reporting that chipmaker AMD will show 5 percent of its workforce the door. AMD is slated to begin shipping quad-core Phenom 9850, 9750, 9650, 9550, and 9150 processors in the coming weeks, according to sources close to the company. The "50" branding scheme indicates that the processors are the B3 version of the Phenom that fixes the "TLB" bug.
