Hopefully you didn't get every single gift you needed on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, because you're probably going to want this guy. Google just unwrapped a trio of new devices within its Play Store, and one of those is a white Nexus 7 (the other is a Google Play Edition Sony Xperia Ultra Z and a G Pad 8.3 from LG). As for the newly tinted Nexus 7, it's a 32GB model, and if you missed our review of the original black model, have a look: it's one of the best slates of the year. It seems like a pretty limited model, given that it's only available in 32GB and only available with Wi-Fi (no cellular).... Read more...
Here’s a great holiday gift idea (wait, are we already doing that?) for the Google Nexus owner in your life: A wireless charger, specifically made for Nexus tablets and smartphones. The device works with Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and Nexus 7 smartphones and tablets, and they’ll start shipping as of November 29th. The small square charger has a magnetic surface that your device snaps onto, and it obviates the need to fiddle with a charging plug. Google is opening up six new showrooms for its Google-branded wares in six locations around the country in an effort to keep pace with the retail presence that Apple and Microsoft have been pushing. The company is calling them “Winter WonderLabs”, and they offer fun, somewhat whimsical ways for consumers to interact with Google products in person, such as the Nexus 7 tablet, chromebooks,... Was it a coincidence? Perhaps, but the fact remains that according to Mobelux, maker of Instapaper, the “read later” Android app saw downloads skyrocket 600% when the Google Nexus 7 launched. According to The Next Web, Jeff Rock of Mobelux heard anecdotally that the $25 Google Play credit that came with the Nexus 7 may have had something to do with such rapid downloads of the $2.99 app, but the larger reason may be that the 7-inch tablet is simply ideal for an app like Instapaper. Users and critics alike are coming around to the idea of the 7-inch tablet; the size is ideal for reading,... Read more...
Confirming one of the worst-kept industry secrets of late, Google announced at its Google I/O conference that it will indeed be selling a 7-inch tablet co-branded called the Nexus 7. Other sweet hardware features include a 1.2MP front-facing camera, micro USB port, microphone, GPS, gyroscope, and a battery that purports to last 8 hours even when blazing movies. It’ll sport the new version of Android, Jelly Bean (4.1), and Chrome... Read more...
There has been wide speculation that Google and ASUS have teamed up on a Kindle Fire-killing tablet that would offer potentially more features and functionality than the Fire yet match its price point. More details have emerged about the alleged tablet, and they certainly indicate that it’s a real thing. Rightware makes benchmarking software for mobile devices, and a result for “Google Asus Nexus 7” turned up in the company’s benchmark database. Apparently, someone with a prototype device is testing it, and for the record, the device hit an average score of 18 in the Basemark... Read more...
