At Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference in June, iOS 7 was unveiled to the world. While the masses were told they would have to wait until autumn to get their hands around it, developers were granted access to an early beta right away. As the days pass, Apple engineers are getting closer and closer to having a final version ready for release. The latest beta, v4, was just issued to devs globally, and it's arguably the biggest jump yet. Many developers are suggesting that iOS 7 Beta 4 finally feels polishing and nearly ready for release, and the hinted feature set is worth appreciating. For starters,... Read more...
It’s about time. Apple is planning to put iOS into devices in cars from many major vehicle manufacturers, starting as early as 2014. As a result, demand is down for the iPhone 5, as evidenced by Apple reportedly cutting orders for various components due to weak demand. An article sitting behind a paywall on Nikkei.com claims that Japan Display Inc. and Sharp have both started cutting output of displays for the iPhone 5 "amid slower-than-anticipated sales" of Apple's flagship smartphone. We're not talking about a nominal amount of orders,... Read more...
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) took a second look at Apple's "pinch-to-zoom" patent and this time decided to invalidate it. It's a preliminary ruling and Apple will undoubtedly appeal, but for now, it serves as a temporary setback in Apple's quest to sue the mobile world, and in particularly Samsung. The ruling also opens the door to a retrial between Apple and Samsung. Apple earlier this year scored a staggering $1.05 billion verdict against Samsung for various patent infringement claims related to its Galaxy products, which it contends copy the look and feel of iPhone and iPad devices....
