While it’s not quite the smoking deal from early last month (a deal which in hindsight was a price mistake), Best Buy is currently trimming $100 from all models of the Motorola Moto 360. The attractive Moto 360 is by far the best-selling Android Wear smartwatch on the market and recently received an update that adds Wi-Fi capabilities, among other things. The $100 discount means that the stainless steel/leather band, stainless steel/stainless steel band, and gold/gold band Moto 360 smartwatches can be had for $149.99, $199.99, and $229.99, respectively. We should also note that Amazon has also... Read more...
Owners of the first-gen Moto X who've been salivating for a taste of the super sweet Android 'Lollipop' have no doubt been a frustrated in recent months given the lack of concrete updates. This is made worse by the fact that the OS has been hitting many other devices. Even the lowly Moto G was treated to Lollipop a couple of months ago, or even as far back as November if we're talking unlocked devices. Well, a new Google+ post made by Motorola's David Schuster gives Moto X owners some new hope: Lollipop could land in a couple of weeks. Pardon the pun, but Schuster doesn't sugar coat what's been... Not long ago, the battle for consumer dollars occurred on a field littered with ultralight notebooks. A few years later, that transitioned to smartphones and tablets. Today, the next major tussle is occurring on one’s wrist, in the red-hot "wearables" market in general. Motorola’s Moto 360 made waves by being the first major smartwatch to actually look like a watch - a real timepiece, not just a gadget. Most of its primary rivals are more akin to something Dick Tracy would wear, but Moto zigged when everyone else zagged. Instead of selling a computer with a band, the 360 is a timepiece that just... Will they or won’t they? The jury is out on whether Motorola’s next generation Moto 360 smartwatch will have a fully circular display, and the latest leaked render isn’t adding any more clarification to what the final product will look like. A new render that was posted to the Chinese site Weibo supposedly shows yet another prototype revision of the second generation Moto 360, this time with a slimmer case design and a display that is now a complete circle. If this is in fact how the final product will look, it would solve one of the most criticized design features of the original Moto 360 — the... Read more...
Apple isn’t content with setting sales and profits records off the backs of its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones (Apple sold over 74 million iPhones during Q4 2014, and recorded profit of $18 billion for fiscal Q1 2015). The company is now going directly after Android, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone users by enticing them to trade in their devices for a brand spankin’ new iPhone at Apple retail stores. Apple has offered a trade-in program that allows you to trade in an hand over an old iPhone for credit towards the purchase of a new model since 2013, but this is the first time that the company... When the Android Wear platform was unveiled last year, the star of the show was undoubtedly the Motorola Moto 360. With its stainless steel body and round display, the smartwatch looked futuristic while retaining styling that was somewhat familiar to traditional timepieces. However, it’s been a year since the original Moto 360 was unveiled and there have been a number of round-faced Android Wear devices that have either hit the market or will in the coming months. LG has both the G Watch R and the Watch Urbane, while Huawei came completely out of left field with its “Watch.” Motorola, of course,... Read more...

At the end of February, it was revealed that Motorola was in the process of extending its Moto Maker customization tool to the Moto 360 Android Wear smartwatch. The Moto Maker has been available for the Moto X smartphone for quite some time now, and allows users to personalize the color of the body/buttons and texture (back cover) of their smartphones. The Moto Maker for the Moto 360 is now live and allows customers to choose from three case finishes (natural steel, dark steel, champagne gold) and nine different bands. Some of those options are going to cost you extra, however. You can choose... Read more...
Apple designer extraordinaire Jony Ive is never one to mince his words, and he sank his teeth into Motorola’s flesh earlier this month in an interview with The New Yorker. In the interview, Ive lambasted Motorola’s Moto Maker tool that allows customers to personalize their Moto X smartphones with a number of colors and textures. “Their value proposition was ‘Make it whatever you want. You can choose whatever color you want,’” said Ive “And I believe that’s abdicating your responsibility as a designer.” Let’s not forget that the Apple’s upcoming Apple Watch will be available in a number of finishes... If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. That’s is the case with the second generation Moto E, which was announced this morning by Motorola. Leading up to the launch of the new smartphone, a product listing on Best Buy’s website suggested that the device would carry a price tag of $99. However, reality hit us today, and the actual retail price is a more understandable $149. However, all is not lost because Motorola has made some significant improvements to the second generation Moto E, with the headlining feature being the addition of LTE connectivity. Motorola also boosted processing... Read more...
When it comes to Android smartphones for folks that are looking for respectable performance and specs at a reasonable price, look no further than Motorola. While Motorola chastises its competitors for pushing high-end smartphones that can touch the $1,000 mark (and higher), it is happy to sell you devices like the Moto E and Moto G that cost less than $200 off contract. Two weeks ago, the second generation Moto E leaked to the Internet courtesy of product listing on Best Buy’s website (you can actually still view it here). That product listing clued us in on a prepaid version the second generation... Read more...
In a wide-ranging interview with The New Yorker, Apple Senior Vice President of Design Sir Jonathan “Jony” Ive, talked about topics ranging from the development of the Apple Watch, to automobile design, to his relationship with the late Steve Jobs, to his views on competitors’ products. It’s that last point that has ruffled a few tail feathers in the Motorola camp. Although Ive didn’t mention Motorola by name, it was pretty clear that the Lenovo-owned brand was the direct target of his “scathing” comments. Ive chastised Motorola’s Moto Maker, which allows customers to “take charge” of the outward... Read more...
