We have shown you a myriad of P55-based motherboards over the last few months and featured a trio of high-end offerings in our coverage of the official Lynnfield launch from a couple of weeks back. The latest P55-based motherboard to hit the HotHardware labs, the EVGA P55 Classified 200, differentiates itself from every other P55-based mobo we've seen with a host of unique features.A few of the features that make the EVGA P55 Classified 200 so interesting are its 10-phase digital VRM, gold-infused CPU socket, its expansion slot configuration, and the board's myriad of overclocking / tweaking related... You know what the world needs? Another Mini-ITX mainboard. And you know what the world is getting courtesy of EVOC? Another Mini-ITX mainboard. With the eco-friendly crowd growing larger and more vocal by the day, it makes sense for EVOC to cater to that audience with a new mainboard designed specifically for small, living room PCs that can play back Internet content and maybe even tune into an OTA station or four. The EC7-1812CLDNA, which is impossibly named, was recently launched over in China as a low-cost embedded motherboard complying with Mini-ITX SBC standard. It's based on Intel's Atom N230... Read more...
Wait, a second--blue USB ports? What could that possibly mean? If our Chinese translation skills are any good, it means USB 3.0, which definitely means happiness. We've known that USB 2.0 was growing a bit long in the tooth, and we've seen a few demonstrations overseas showcasing the abilities of early USB 3.0 connections, but this marks the first time that we've seen the next-gen connector demonstrated on a real, live motherboard. It seems that the lucky mainboard is an Asus P6X58 Premium, and while a pair of USB 2.0 sockets are also included, it's the pair of USB 3.0 ports that has us salivating.... Poor langauge translation tools notwithstanding, MSI has a crazy one on deck today. The same company that decided it wise to implant an Instant-On OS module onto a motherboard (Winki) has now determined that what the world needs most is yet another way to overclock your machine. And comically enough, we think we agree.Let's face it -- educated overclocking is exhilarating, and oftentimes the performance increases push your enjoyment factor from "so-so" to "ooh yeah!" The device, which is aptly named the OC Genie, it a sort of Houdini for overclocking, if you will. We're not so sure we'd call it... Read more...
Here's a company we haven't heard from in what feels like ages: Albatron. Said outfit has just announced its newest mainboard, the K3780E. As with most motherboards, this one also possesses a not-exactly-memorable name, and while the full press release reads more like broken English than anything else, here's what we've made out. The board supports AMD processors and features an AMD 780E North Bridge, built-in ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics, hardware decoding, an AMD SB710 south bridge, four SATA II inputs and a single ATA 100 channel. The company assures us that it'll slip inside any Mini-ITX case,... Read more...
These days, power savings are just important as frame rates, gigahertz and megabytes. With the whole world going "green," what better way to join the bandwagon than to slap an Energy Star 5.0-compliant motherboard into your main rig? This week, Asus has announced an industry first by bringing that very label to its mainboards. The Energy Star 5.0 standard is the latest and greatest, and it's set to take effect on July 1st of this year. Asus' motherboards exceed Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) standards for the reduction of harmful... Read more...
Calling this motherboard one fit for a "supercomputer" is probably stretching things, but we've no doubt that Asus' latest mainboard is built for serious abuse. The P6T7 WS SuperComputer Workstation Motherboard (catch all that?) is billed as the "most revolutionary and powerful Parallel Computing solution available to date." The board is equipped with seven (yes, seven!) PCI-Express Gen2 x16 slots and is certified for NVIDIA Tesla GPU computing. Specifically, it'll handle up to three Tesla cards and one NVIDIA Quadro card, which amounts to a grand total of 960 parallel processing cores that provide... Read more...
