For years, gamers have wondered when Valve might debut a new version of its Source engine and next-generation games built to run on it. Now, we may have answer to that, thanks to leaked screenshots of what appears to be a rebuilt version of the classic Plantation level. If true, it represents an enormous step forward for the venerable Source engine, which debuted 10 years ago. Valve just sent over a trailer and screenshots for "The Sacrifice" DLC, which is in development for both Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. As fans of the franchise will know, "The Sacrifice" is going to explain why Bill, one of the original four survivors from the first game, is dead in "The Passing" map, which was released for L4D2 a few months back. "The Sacrifice" downloadable content is due for release on October 5, 2010. It is the prequel to "The Passing," and takes place from the L4D Survivors' perspective as they make their way South, before meeting up with the quartet from L4D2.... Read more...

Last Thursday, Valve released "The Passing," a much-anticipated update to its popular Left 4 Dead series that features the protagonists of the original L4D meeting up with the Left 4 Dead: The Next Generation cast. In addition, the DLC promised new weekly "Mutations," new co-operative modes of play, and an as-yet unidentified bug that crashes the game on any GeForce GTX 400-series product. Fans of the popular and highly addictive Left 4 Dead (I include myself in that group), will be excited to hear that Valve has just announced Left 4 Dead 2. In addition to new characters, zombies, and special infected, L4D2 will introduce melee combat weapons like a chainsaw, frying pan, or baseball bat (among others), and a new AI director that will dynamically adjust level layout, weather, lighting, and other objects in the game world.We've got a teaser trailed posted below, along with a summary of the game's setting, features, and expected availability.
