There was a rumor last fall that Android 5.0, codenamed Key Lime Pie, would be announced on October 29th at an Android event. (Note: No Key Lime Pie there.) Now, a new rumor has emerged indicating that Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie may launch at the end of this October, a full year after we’d first hoped to see it. As Hurricane Sandy bears down on the East coast, at least one company isn’t taking any chances. Google has cancelled its Playground event in New York, as the governor has declared a state of emergency. The event will be rescheduled at some point soon, and we’ll let you know when that is as soon as Google tells us. Until, then, everyone will have to rely on rumors about the products Google was possibly planning to announce at the event, including new 7- and 10-inch Nexus tablets, new Nexus smartphone, and Android 4.2 Key Lime Pie. Although a number of Android users are still noshing on Gingerbread (Android 2.3) and have not yet tasted their Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) or handful of Jelly Beans (Android 4.1), there’s widespread speculation that Google will be announcing yet another dessert-themed Android version at an event in New York City on October 29th.
