Intel has released a new graphics driver for its Sandy Bridge integrated CPUs that it claims delivers significantly improved performance in a number of titles. Listed gains are reprinted below: In addition, the new driver purportedly fixes intermittent crashing when an HDMI monitor is connected, WebGL rendering issues in both Chrome and Firefox, and cleans up artifacts that were formerly present in Assassin's Creed, Darkspore, TES:Oblivion, Empire:Total War, F1 2010, and Starcraft 2. Corruption issues in Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Crysis, and Dragon Age 2 were also attended to. Finally, the driver... Read more...
The world has come a long way in the world of embedded computing, with more and more power now able to squeeze onto integrated circuits versus having to use discrete processors and the like. Integrated graphics are far more powerful now than they were, and integrated processors in general are far more capable now than ever before. But there is still a long ways to go in making fewer things discrete, namely the battery. The battery has held back innovation in consumer electronics for as long as portable devices have been around; regardless of how great a design is, there must always be consideration... Read more...
Broadcom really isn't a sexy business. They supply Integrated Circuits for broadband communications. It is a big business, however; Broadcom had revenue of $3.67 billion in 2006, for instance. According to indictments handed down recently, various people at Broadcom backdated millions of stock options to raid company receipts for themselves and others, and Broadcom co-founder and former CEO Henry T. Nicholas figured you'd be more likely to do business with him if you were high and had a prostitute on each arm. A second, four-count indictment names only Nicholas, 48, and alleges that he maintained... Read more...

Gaming on integrated graphics?  You've got to be kidding, right?  I mean, standalone cards are pushed to the limit by games.  You would expect that a system "saddled" with integrated graphics would be too handicapped.  According to an Intel blog, with the latest release of their G965 integrated graphics chipset drivers, that's not necessarily the case. Traditionally, integrated graphics have been the weaklings of the graphics world – sure there are a lot of them sold, but traditionally they have been practically useless for 3D gaming. Until now that is - G965 has grown some muscle…Until very... Read more...
