AMD always hosts an event in the shadow of Intel's Developer Forum, so it wasn't surprising to hear the company was demoing its upcoming Zacate processor this week. Zacate is the codename associated with AMD's 18W dual-core APU and will target the $500 notebook market. The second chip, Ontario, is a 9W APU that'll chase after Atom's business. The world has come a long way in the world of embedded computing, with more and more power now able to squeeze onto integrated circuits versus having to use discrete processors and the like. Integrated graphics are far more powerful now than they were, and integrated processors in general are far more capable now than ever before. We suppose even the best laid plans can fall apart, and it seems that one of Intel's most promising endeavors is no longer active as of today. In a new post by the company's own Bill Kircos, he addresses Intel's stance on graphics-related programs, giving vague updates to a broad variety of topics. But one area wasn't vague at all. It has been paired to newer Southbridge chips and AMD did follow up with the 790GX about a year and half ago, but for all intents and purposes AMD's flagship desktop chipset has remained unchanged for what is equivalent to an eternity in Internet-years. With the International Solid-State Circuits Conference less than a week away, Intel has released additional details on its hexa-core desktop, next generation mobile and dual-core Westmere processors. Much of the dual-core data was revealed last month when the CPU manufacturer launched Clarkdale (our review is here if you want additional information on the CPU and its integrated graphics core). In a somewhat similar flap to that over Wikipedia and pictures of the prophet Muhammad, Sony has delayed the hotly-anticipated PS3 game LittleBigPlanet due to the discovery of background music tracks containing two expressions found in the Quran. The game had been scheduled for North American release Tuesday. Instead, Sony says it will start shipping LittleBigPlanet to N.A. retailers on October 27. Copies of the game that have already shipped elsewhere in the world will be recalled from retailers and replaced, according to Sony. According to a report on the Digitimes website, NVIDIA is planning to launch a few new chipsets for the AMD platform complete with next-gen IGPs and PCI Express 2.0 support."The chipset will come out in two versions, the high-end MCP72XE and the mainstream MCP72P, both support HyperTransport 3.0 and upcoming AMD Phenom processors.
