Samsung has recently made available it's first hybrid hard drives with the introduction of the MH80 series. Tech News World reported that the hybrid drives, sporting either 128Mb or 256Mb of OneNAND flash memory, will come in 80Gb, 120Gb, and 160GB sizes. Samsung claims their new hybrid drives will allow faster OS boot times by up to 50%, faster resume times, extended battery life, and increased reliability. The blokes at the inquirer have pointed out that Samsung is now shipping laptop hybrid drives to its customers: "The MH80 series comes in 80GB, 120GB and 180GB sizes. The 2.5-inch drive has 128 or 256MB of flash memory and combines mangetic [sic] optical characteristics. Samsung claims it will give faster boot and resume times, better reliability and increased battery life." Samsung also manufactures desktop hard drives, but no word on when they will go hybrid.
