2013 saw the release of the One (M7), and the One (M8) replaced that flagship in 2014. 2015 will soon be upon us, and HTC is once again preparing to launch a new flagship. According to the folks from @upleaks, the next generation smartphone is being developed under the codename “Hima”. Like the rumored Samsung Galaxy S6, Hima will feature an octa-core, 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with 3GB of RAM. Four of the cores will operate at 2GHz, while the remaining four will be clocked at 1.5GHz. Interestingly, the Hima will stick with a 5” display and the resolution will remain pegged at 1080p.... The HTC One (M8) has landed, and HTC’s new flagship phone features a curvy brushed metal unibody frame, dual front-facing speakers, and the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor. The 5-inch display is a full HD 1080p affair, and the smartphone comes with HTC Sense and HTC Blinkfeed. The HTC Ultrapixel camera can shoot in 1080p HD and has a unique focus feature that lets you blur the background and focus on aspects in the photo even after you’ve shot the picture, and it’s designed to create beautiful photos even in low light. The 5MP front camera can also capture 1080p HD... Read more...
We’ve already discussed the impending HTC M8 (One), or One M8, or whatever the final official name will be, but Rightware has shared the new handset’s benchmark results from its Basemark and BrowserMark tests. The HTC One M8 beat out the Nokia Lumia 1520 to take the top spot in gaming performance, topping the field in the Basemark OS II and Basemark X tests, making it also the top phone overall according to Rightware. The HTC One M8 wasn’t quite as hot in the BrowserMark web browsing test (finishing 7th), nor the Basemark GUI test. Still, the quad-core Snapdragon 801 (2.3GHz)... Read more...
HTC is struggling badly financially, but to its credit the company refuses to go down without a fight. In addition to looking into the lower range of the handset market to regain some revenue flow, HTC is rolling out the HTC Advantage program which essentially promises the best possible customer service for those who buy HTC smartphones. For example, HTC Advantage offers users a free (one-time, within the first 6 months of ownership) screen replacement should theirs break. Further, HTC promises to keep its phones fresh with the most current Android updates, and the company is offering 25GB to 50GB... Read more...
The HTC One is a nice-looking phone (our review here), and it’s shown up in black, red, blue, and sexy silver, but now HTC’s flagship phone may be donning a more audacious gown. According to leaked photos from Sina Weibo (it’s behind a login screen), there may be a gold-colored HTC One in the works, as well. Yes, gold, just like the gold-colored iPhone 5S that Conan O’Brien openly mocked (Gold is best! Best! Best! Best!), which means that if the leaked photos are accurate, at least two flagship smartphones will be available in the color of kings. Credit: Sina Weibo via PhoneDog... Read more...
The HTC One has become something of a comeback device for a company that has stumbled upon tough times. While the HTC First has been forgotten, the HTC One has received tons of praise from both the technology press and consumers alike. That said, one giant American carrier has yet to carry the phone, which has no doubt hindered its ability to truly rival handsets such as the iPhone and Galaxy S4 in terms of raw unit sales. That carrier is Verizon Wireless, and it's finally hopping onto the HTC One bandwagon. Starting August 22, the LTE-enabled, Android-powered phone will hit Verizon shelves. The... Read more...
HTC is struggling; despite better second quarter numbers and profit (about $41.63 million USD, as opposed to last quarter’s $2.8 million USD), fueled in part by sales of the HTC One handset, the company failed to meet forecasts. Analysts noted that HTC’s June sales year-over-year were down 25% and predicted that Q3 sales won’t be much different than Q2 despite the July-September timeframe normally being ripe for growth. HTC One Further, there doesn’t seem to be much in HTC’s pipeline as far as product launches go, aside from the rumored HTC One Mini that could launch... Read more...
In its annual report, HTC revealed an interesting factoid: Its high-level executives took a huge pay cut, to the tune of about 51%, after disappointing performance in 2012. Indeed, 2012 was a rough one for HTC, as the company saw a declining market share and low earnings after a good 2011; according to the WSJ, the company has lost around 80% of its value since its zenith two years ago. HTC CEO Peter Chou The HTC One (review here), released in 2013, shows promise, but the HTC First (the first “Facebook Phone”, review here) does not, so this year has started out a bit uneven. HTC First... Read more...
While the HTC One was built to compete directly with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the iPhone 5, and now that the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini and a smaller, cheaper iPhone are in the works, HTC is set to release a mini version of its own. According to Bloomberg’s two sources “familiar with the matter”, the HTC One Mini (or whatever it will be called) will have a 4.3-inch display, which is a shade smaller that the HTC One’s 4.7-inch screen, and it will have a lower resolution, too. HTC One Further, the mini version will likely have a lower-spec’d Qualcomm SoC than the HTC One’s... Read more...
Verizon has let the press know about a “special event” that’s happening on May 22nd at CTIA, and we’re left to speculate about what that announcement might be. In typical teaser fashion, Verizon sent out a note without any real details; sometimes, companies will throw us little hints with these things, but that’s not the case with this one. It just says, “Save the date” and “Join Verizon Wireless for a special announcement at CTIA.” And so we wonder. The company could announce the availability of the Samsung Galaxy S4 or HTC One, both of which... Read more...
To compete in the fierce smartphone market, you have to have an excellent handset as well as strong partners all along the supply chain. It sure looks like the HTC One will be a terrific phone, but it looks like there are big problems with HTC’s suppliers. Two premiere features of the HTC One are its UltraPixel camera (which boasts smart flash and ImageChip 2 technology) and a sexy silver aluminum unibody, but there’s a report that HTC is having trouble securing those components. Some suppliers don’t feel as though HTC is a “tier one” customer any longer. This is very... Read more...
Earlier today, we posted some leaked photos of the upcoming HTC One handset (which was known as the HTC M7 when we first caught wind of the phone last year), and now we have the official details on (and official photos of) the device. The HTC One is the company’s new flagship phone, and it boasts some attractive specs. Available in black or silver with an aluminum unibody, the phone is 4G LTE enabled and has a 1.7GHz Snapdragon quad-core processor, 4.7-inch full HD (1080p) display, 2GB RAM, and 32GB or 64GB storage capacities. There are dual speakers on the front of the phone with a built-in... Read more...
