How's this for a little friendly competition? Apple's iPhone has stood strong against the smartphone rivals over the past few years, but HTC and other Android-utilizing brands have begun to seriously catch up. As promised, the HTC HD2 from T-Mobile is officially here. To help welcome this new smartphone to the market, Gogo Inflight Internet is offering free service for up to six months to owners of this new phone. Gogo Inflight Internet lets you check email, surf the Web, and connect with friends while traveling on an airplane. As you'll recall, HD2 features a large, 4.3-inch capacitive, high-resolution touchscreen display. T-Mobile has officially announced the release details for the upcoming HTC HD2 smartphone. You can expect the HD2 to be available Wednesday, March 24 for $199.99 with a two-year contract. It will also be available without the two-year contract on an Even More Plus service plan for $449.99. The HD2 boasts of a 4.3-inch capacitive, high-resolution touchscreen display. It is powered by a Qualcomm 1GHz Snapdragon mobile processor and runs HTC’s Sense user interface on top of Windows Mobile 6.5. Microsoft is tightening its control over upcoming Windows Phone 7 devices. As a result, Windows Mobile 6.x devices won't be upgradable to the newer OS. Even devices such as the recently announced HTC HD2 won't qualify for an upgrade. At first glance, the HD2 meets Microsoft's criteria for a Windows Phone 7 device. It has a 1GHz Qualcomm processor, high-resolution capacitive touch display, 5-megapixel camera, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The problem is the phone has two too many buttons. This spring, T-Mobile customers with the new HTC HD2 will be able to enjoy full-length movies from Blockbuster On Demand on their handsets. As the exclusive movie download experience that will be embedded on the upcoming HTC HD2 smartphone, Blockbuster On Demand will enable users to buy or rent movies digitally and download them to their smartphone via Wi-Fi.
