While LaCie is known around the world as having excellently-designed storage devices, G-Technology is no slouch. At the NAB Show this week, the company has launched a Thunderbolt-powered dock with two HDD bays -- it's the new Evolution Series, and it's said to be the only two-bay docking station with interchangeable / expandable storage modules. The G-DOCK ev with Thunderbolt and the G-Drive ev / ev PLUS modules also work with USB 3.0. The idea here is to equip digital A/V professionals who are working with huge 2K and 4K video files, giving them the speed they need to not pull their hair out while... Read more...
NAB is usually about high-end broadcast gear, but this time, there's a whole ton of peripherals making their debut as well. Hitachi's G-Technology line of HDDs is expanding this year, with a new 3TB 7200RPM drive used across eight G-Technology high-performing external storage solutions for audio/video (A/V) pros. The other major news is the addition of Thunderbolt support, which was developed by Intel and brought to market with help from Apple. These are just a few of the dozens of new HDDs with Thunderbolt ports, and we're sure that number will grow in due time. Having a Thunderbolt external HDD... Read more...
Oh my, is that Hitachi's new G-Drive with G-Technology in your pocket, the slimmest external hard drive on the planet, or are you just really unhappy to see us? Oh it is Hitachi's G-Drive! That would explain the ultra-slim footprint. The G-Drive is a 2.5-inch external unit measuring just 128.6mm (L) x 82mm (W) x 9.9mm (H), so you can fill it with confidential files and slide it in your pocket with no one ever being the wiser. "Our new G-DRIVE slim is yet another way that we’re making high quality storage more accessible and affordable for consumers," said Mike Williams, vice president and... Read more...
Those new to the storage market may be unfamiliar with G-Technology. It was a company swallowed by Hitachi a few years back, and it remains (quietly) one of the more stylish HDD brands on the market today. The only real competition in terms of design is given by LaCie, but today G-Tech is taking a step in the right direction by proving that they also value reliability. The company just announced that they are transitioning their entire line (the G-SPEED RAID one, anyway) to high-grade, enterprise-class hard drives. With solutions ranging from the new four-bay G-SPEED Q with a quad interface to... Read more...
The news just keeps flowing from NAB 2010. G-Technology, who has since been teamed with Hitachi in the storage realm, just announced new drives today aimed at professionals in the content creation industry, but if we know you, we're guessing you have just as big a need for archiving as the folks who do this stuff for a living. At the expo, G-Tech is showcasing two new additions to the G-SPEED family: the G-SPEED Q and the G-SPEED FC XL 8Gb/s Fibre Channel solution. It's clear that both of these are fairly high-brow products, marketed to give content creators, broadcasters and filmmakers "more reliable,... Read more...
G-Technology may not be the first name you think of when it comes to hard drives, but thanks to Hitachi picking it up, we'd say that could all be changing soon. Today, the company has announced that it's doubling capacity of its 3.5" product line. More room for more stuff--exciting!Hitachi’s 2TB, 7,200 RPM, 32MB cache buffer hard drive is now being implemented across the entire 3.5" product line, and now G-Tech's upgraded single-drive and ultra-fast, low-cost RAID systems include the G-DRIVE, G-SAFE, G-RAID, G-SPEED eS, G-SPEED eS Pro, G-SPEED eS PRO XL, and G-SPEED FC XL can all reah as high as...
