Did Google just eat one of its own? With Google's takeover of YouTube, it's pretty clear that there's no real need for multiple video services under one roof. YouTube has become a dominant force in the industry, and even Google Video isn't a household name in the way that YouTube is. Google has a stronghold in today’s tech world, but that’s not to say every project it attempts reaches great success. So, like many other companies these days, Google is feeling the need to cut back. Recently, the company announced plans to end support for some of its less popular Web-based applications. Some of these applications include Google Catalog Search, Google Video, and Jaiku. Google has partnered with quite a few other nations to provide more content through their Google Video service. France, the UK, and Canada are just a few of the nations which Google will be focusing on. "Google hopes that the eight national editions will grow to reflect the likes of the countries each site serves - visitors can rate videos to help sort which ones are the most popular.
