Looks like the big dogs, namely LaCie, Seagate and Western Digital, have some extra competition. The HDD space has always been crowded, and it seems to be a market with ultra-thin margins. But the good ones are staying in it, and hanging in there. Freecom has been dishing out storage options for quite some time, but rarely gets the kind of recognition enjoyed by those other guys. This new drive, however, might just be stylish enough to grab the mainstream attention we believe that it deserves. The new Mobile Drive Mg is described as an "elegant mobile hard drive designed specifically for the Mac... Read more...
USB 3.0 splashed down in earnest this past week at IDF in San Francisco, but aside from a webcam and a few prototype devices on the show floor, we've yet to hear of any real groundbreaking USB 3.0 products. Until now. Freecom, a lesser known maker of external hard drives and the like, has today confessed that it has a USB 3.0 external HDD in the pipeline, and unless we're missing something, that makes it the first to do so. The Hard Drive XS 3.0 doesn't look all that special on the outside. It's just a plain portable HDD, with a regular exterior and no real flash to speak of. But as with beauty,... Read more...

Freecom's ToughDrive Sport External HDD, which was unveiled just a few months back, already had our attention, but now the company's aiming even higher by introducing a new product with a "world's first" label attached. The all new Mobile Drive XS is the world's smallest 3.5" external hard drive, and it sits well beside the Mobile Drive XXS, which is the world's smallest 2.5" external hard drive. The fanless device weighs just 860g (1.89 pounds) and has been created in collaboration with Belgian designer Sylvain Willenz. We're told that it uses a a form-fitting rubber enclosure to help reduce vibration... Read more...
Need a portable hard drive that can withstand the elements? Look no further than Freecom's latest, the appropriately named ToughDrive Sport. The drive is a durable, shock-resistant 2.5" device that has been engineered to "endure even the toughest conditions." We won't judge whether your needs are tough enough to warrant a purchase here, but suffice it to say, the company makes clear that it's perfect for "heavy duty users that want to carry their data on the move, from backpacking around the world to cycling up mountains."Unlike traditional external HDDs, this one includes a handy loop in one corner...
