There's lots of competition in the tablet space these days. With the recent announcement of the $199 Amazon Kindle Fire tablet, it seems that manufacturers and retailers are thinking more and more about lower-priced tablets. Earlier this year, the fire sale on the HP TouchPad had these tablets flying off the shelves. We've also watched prices fall on the 7-inch BlackBerry PlayBook recently. In July, Motorola cut the price on its entry-level Xoom tablet to $499 from the original selling price of $599. In addition to price cuts, we've also seen more tablets launching with lower price tags. Now, the... Read more...
If reports from "reliable sources" are to be believed, pocket-lint is claiming ViewSonic will introduce the world's first 7-inch Honeycomb tablet at Computex at the end of this month.  The ViewSonic ViewPad 7x will be a new Android tablet in the company's lineup. It will sit above the current 7-inch ViewPad 7 but it won't replace it. The new ViewPad 7x will sport Google's tablet-friendly Android OS, better known as Honeycomb. Assuming ViewSonic launches the tablet at Computex, it will likely be the first 7-inch tablet announced with this OS. In addition to Honeycomb, the ViewPad 7x is expected... Read more...
The tablet market couldn't be any hotter if it tried, and while HTC has focused largely on smartphones over the years, the company's still diving into those crowded tablet waters with the launch of the Flyer. The Wi-Fi only version of the tablet has been talked about for months, but there's been no real clear indication of how much it'd cost Americans and when it would be available here. Now, we know. Thanks to a Best Buy page on the device, we're told that the Flyer will cost $499 and will ship this week. Of course, it'll only ship with Android 2.3 (and a healthy dose of Sense), and if it's the... Read more...
Lest you be distracted by the new EVO View 4G tablet HTC launched with Sprint last week, HTC wants you to remember that the 7" Flyer is still coming. HTC introduced the flyer at World Mobile Congress in February and has promised a spring 2011 ship date. While there's still no word on the actual ship date -- or the official price (an unlocked device is expected to be about $600), the company released a six-minute YouTube video showing off all the fancy features the Flyer will possess, particularly its one-of-a kind digital pen technology. The device looks like it will be geared toward students rather... Read more...
It's a funny thing, really. Are we witnessing the death of the 7" tablet already? You may laugh, but look at this. Even Samsung's second Galaxy Tab is utilizing the 10.1" form factor, and it's only months after Steve Jobs made clear on a quarterly earnings call that he saw no use for a 7" slate. But there's at least one more coming to market, so that's good if you skipped the original Galaxy Tab in hopes of something better being around the corner. HTC has launched their 1.5GHz Flyer this week, an Android 2.4 tablet with a 7" display and plenty of style. It's the first tablet to ship with HTC Sense,... Read more...
