"Hail to the 3D King, Baby!" We don't imagine that's how Duke Nukem's creators originally intended that phase to go, but it may end up going just like that. NVIDIA has announced that Duke Nukem Forever will provide full support their 3D Vision technology. Not terribly surprising that the newest Duke will support 3D, but then again, anything related to this title and "reality" is somewhat impressive. Duke Nukem Forever will add new graphics, new alien foes, new babes, and more debauchery. Gearbox is integrating full support for NVIDIA 3D Vision technology, giving gamers an up-close and personal... Read more...
Brian Burke, Nvidia's rockstar PR manager who once held the same position at 3dfx (moment of silence...) and is not to be confused with the Toronto Maple Leafs' GM, is calling attention to someone who he believes is an under-appreciated gaming great who deserves to be mentioned in same breath as John Carmack (co-founder of id Software), Tim Sweeney (founder of Epic Games), Cliff Bleszinski (Unreal franchise), Gabe Newell (co-founder of Valve), Will Wright (Sims - 'nuff said), Shigeru Miyamoto (of Nintendo fame), Cevat Yerli (founder, CEO, and President of Crytek), and yes, even John Romero (renowned... This morning  at the PAX East show in Boston, MA -- though slightly forbidden, we were able to steal some video footage of the infamous and forever anticipated Duke Nukem Forever.  Finally set to release in May 2011, the folllowing is early in-game footage of actual game play.  Ready to kick ass and chew bubblegum ("and yeah, he's all outta gum"), Duke is actually looking pretty slick and the baddies, well, they're looking bad, as you'd expect... 2K Games was allowing controlled 20 minute gaming sessions for show attendees.  Game play itself was a hoot as you'd expect, with... Seriously folks, we couldn't make this stuff up if we tried. In fact, this is the stuff that pure comedic gold is made of. Duke Nukem Forever, which is arguably the most highly hyped game to never emerge in official fashion, was thought to extinguished forever when 3D Realms (its developer) went under earlier this month. Weeks later, the game has resurfaced in conversation yet again, further proving the point that this title simply will not ever die. According to a blurb over at Bloomberg, Take-Two Interactive Software, which makes the heralded Grand Theft Auto series of video games, has sued Apogee... Read more...
Wired has posted their list of annual Vaporware awards, and you'll never guess what tops the list yet again this year. Yes, you guessed it--Duke Nukem Forever. The 12-year (and counting) development cycle and subsequent leaks of screenshots, game footage, and what have you of DNF, has got to be one of the longest running jokes in the industry...this game can't possibly still be in development..."After some twelve (12!) years in development, we had given up all hope of ever seeing Duke Nukem Forever hit the shelves. We even held a high-level meeting in the Wired newsroom where we agreed to end the... Read more...
Duke Nukem Forever is one of the quintessential examples of vaporware. In fact, it's held up as such in the "vaporware" Wikipedia article. And you can bet hundreds of times the "Forever" part of the title has been said to mean how long it will be in development. That said, a new game featuring the iconic Duke Nukem would be a hot seller, and that makes this big news.3D Realms promised that as of 10AM PST today, a Duke Nukem Forever "teaser trailer" would be available.  And wonder of wonders, the trailer was not vaporware!  It showed up.  Unfortunately, the servers are really overloaded.However,...
