During Apple's recent iPhone OS 4.0 event, the company's CEO (Steve Jobs) stated that around 450,000 iPad units had been sold in around a week in the United States. Now, that number is hovering around half a million. Basically, Apple never expected that many iPads to fly off of store shelves, and while Apple will certainly take the demand, it's putting them in a bind when it comes to distribution. The company recently came forward with some rather annoying news if you're not living in America: there aren't enough iPad units to go around, and now the international launch is being delayed because... It's hard to say if there is anything to this, but it's certainly interesting at the very least. For years now, Intel has been notoriously good at shipping its products on time. If Intel says a chip is coming in a certain quarter in a certain year, it'll be there. On the other hand, AMD has been the polar opposite; year after year, the chip maker has announced delay after delay, spoiling even the hopes of diehard fanatics. Now, however, the tables seem to be turning, albeit slightly. While Intel's dealing with a $1.45 billion fine, Advanced Micro Devices is enjoying the success of its Neo platform... Read more...

Software updates and delays have walked hand-in-hand in the industry since day one, and Apple certainly isn't any exception to this rule.  The latest Apple product to be plagued by software delays is the updated software that will enable Apple TV customers to rent videos.Rumors of Apple testing rental software and encountering numerous bugs go back to before the product's initial launch.  Video rentals were rumored to be a launch feature, but a few too many bugs supposedly caused the rental feature to be pushed back to a post-release feature.  Once the Apple TV was launched, it ran... As with all rumors, please take the following news item with a grain of salt until we can receive official confirmation or denial from Intel. It seems that AMD might have a few more months to get their high-end Phenoms ready as it's being whispered that Intel is going to hold back volume shipments of the QX9770 until the Feb-March time frame.“The quad-core 3.2GHz QX9770, which will be available at US$1,399 in thousand-unit quantities, is to replace the Core 2 Extreme QX9650 processor launched in November 2007, the sources noted. However, Intel is yet to phase out the 3.0GHz QX9650 despite the planned... But the company had hoped to start shipping it to a wider variety of customers this month, as well as introduce a faster model that could better compete with Intel's latest Penryn chips.Unfortunately for AMD, that's going to have to wait, according to a company spokesman. The good thing about this is our contract with DirecTV does not end for months.  This delay means we might still be able to sign up for a roll-out, if it ever happens --- and if it ever happens in our area.Comcast's seemingly never-ending delays in getting TiVo service to its customers continued Tuesday, as the company admitted it was behind schedule in rolling out service to customers.Since the announcement that the two companies had partnered to offer DVR software to Comcast subscribers in March 2005, the release date has been repeatedly delayed. Yesterday we told you about the software unlocking of the iPhone performed by two different companies. One of them, Uniquephones.com, was to go live with its solution today on its www.iphoneunlocking.com site.  However, after a threatening call from an AT&T lawyer, they have delayed the release. The man informed McLaughlin that if he posted the unlock code, he could be sued for copyright infringement and for dissemination of Apple's intellectual property (IP).McLaughlin is concerned that fighting a lawsuit with AT&T or Apple would sink his small company, which does a modestly successful...
