Data Robotics is hardly a startup any more. At this point, they're a well-known name in the storage business, and they're still just about the only company out there with automated backup solutions like the Drobo. It's more like a storage robot than a dumb RAID box, and while the company has focused mostly on consumers thus far, they're now starting to break into the enterprise market. They've offered the DroboPro before, but the company's newest line "means business." And that means they're after business dollars. Three main products are being announced this week: an 8-bay file sharing Drobo with... Read more...
The original Drobo direct-attached-storage (DAS) device hit the scene in summer of 2007 and took the tech world by storm. It represented a new paradigm in how you could implement external, redundant back-up storage with much of the same goodness that RAID offers, but without a number of the headaches and the complexity that also comes with traditional RAID solutions. The Drobo still used RAID to redundantly store data across multiple hard drives, but did so using Data Robotics’ own version of it, which it calls BeyondRAID.  The primary advantages that Data Robotics’ BeyondRAID... Data Robotics has been making other mass storage devices look sort of silly for years now, as the company's Drobo line of smart storage solutions tends to keep a better eye on your files than the more traditional RAID setups. Just a few short months after launching the Drobo S and DroboElite, the company has announced their first-ever NAS drive: Drobo FS.It stands for Drobo File Server, and while the company is hesitant to actually call it a NAS drive, that's precisely what it is. It uses the same 5-bay enclosure as the Drobo S, offering users the ability to mix and match hard drives as they go.... Read more...
Inelegant NAS solutions have been around for years, and still they sell well. All of the organization and data management is left on the shoulders of the owner, and the drive itself simply serves up content whenever you--the end-user--tells it to. The Drobo changed all of that in early 2007, and now Data Robotics is looking to expand its product line in a big way. In fact, the company is doubling the amount of products it sells today, though that's not too difficult to do when your line only consists of two products.First up is the Drobo S. Essentially, it's a Drobo, but with 5 bays, support for... Read more...
Data Robotics has a good thing going with its Drobo smart storage line, and if you've been waiting on the sidelines looking to jump in, now might be the perfect time. Just months after introducing its DroboPro SMB/SOHO storage solution, the company has launched its "Drobo Gives Back" program to provide even more incentive to buy now. From today until June 30th, a $100 instant rebate applies to the purchase of Drobo or any Drobo bundle. You heard right -- when buying a Drobo from any of its resellers worldwide (as well as the Drobo online store for US and Canada), you'll get a nice, crispy Benjamin... Read more...
