We've detailed Crytek's problems in several previous posts, and it's now clear that it wasn't just the company's UK studios that were affected. Crytek announced today that it has officially moved development of its F2P shooter "Hunt: Horrors of the Guilded Age" to Germany -- ignoring the fact that the majority of the US team had apparently already quit the company. The problem? Just as in the UK, the US employees weren't getting paid. In a separate announcement, Crytek also declared that development of the Homefront series had passed entirely to developer Deep Silver. The company has stated,... Read more...
Last week, we reported on the problems dogging Crytek, with UK staff allegedly going unpaid and increasing concerns over the company's ability to continue as a going concern. Those concerns have only amplified in the past week -- it's now reprorted that the majority of Crytek UK staff have turned in formal letters of grievance and left for home. Obviously reports like this need to be taken with a grain of salt, but Kotaku states that it's now heard from "close to 20" sources with positions at the company. In an age where employment can be quickly verified, a game studio isn't going to have 20 spoof... Read more...
Crytek -- developers of the CryEngine and the hit Crysis series -- is, by all accounts, in significant trouble. Reports of problems are mounting at multiple publications as employees speak out about missed paychecks, layoffs, and multiple staff departing in the wake of non-payment. Eurogamer is reporting that Crytek UK has laid off or lost 30 staff working on Homefront: The Revolution since development started in 2011, including the Managing Director, Karl Hilton. Crytek, of course, is strenuously denying any and all reports that the company might be near bankruptcy, but comments coming from ex-employees... Read more...
No, your PC can't run Crysis online, not after June 30, 2014, anyway. It doesn't matter how big and burly your setup is, playing Crysis online will no longer be an option after next month, as it's one of about a trillion and a half titles (small exaggeration) getting booted offline this summer and beyond. The list of games starts with Lord of Ultima, the only title scheduled to be shut down today. On October 1, 2014, Electronic Arts will kick World Series of YAHTZEE (free for iOS) offline. Sandwiched in between those two titles are a whole bunch of popular games, all scheduled to go dark on June... Read more...
Let's get one thing clear up front. Crysis 3's graphics are absolutely stunning. Crytek's latest game doesn't raise the bar -- it annihilates it. At the highest settings, Crysis blows Battlefield 3 out of the water, makes mincemeat of Max Payne, and makes the original Crysis -- itself a graphics powerhouse -- look more like the first Call of Duty. Crysis 3 really is that stunning, provided that you've got the video card to handle it. Like the first game, this title is capable of bringing even a high-end card to its knees. Everyone who worked in the artistic departments, from character animations... Read more...

Normally we don't cover games that are still in alpha. While beta coverage is typically a good example of how final gameplay is shaping up, alpha is a time when major design elements are still in flux. We're making an exception for Crysis 3's recent multiplayer test, however, to highlight just how gorgeous the game already is. Hi there! Last week, Crytek held a closed alpha test for Crysis 3. Players were limited to DX11 video cards and just one map, Crash Site, though 16-player support was implemented. Crytek sternly advised everyone that all of the maps and scenery were placeholders and not indicative... Read more...
When Epic Games demoed the Unreal 4 engine earlier next year, Crytek barely batted an eyelash. The company's new trailer for the upcoming Crysis 3 is evidence of why. The game environments are stunning, and the company swears the footage its showing is drawn from real-world gameplay. The game engine is flexible; it looks as though the PC version will stand out quite a bit from the Xbox and PS3 flavors. When Crytek released the original Crysis, it inadvertently shot itself in the foot. So much attention had been focused on the game's lavish visuals and detail levels (and the horsepower required... Here's what we want you to do. Take whichever arm's stronger and clench a fist. Raise it above your head as high as you can, take a breath, and sock yourself in the gut if you've ever posted the question, "But can it run Crysis?" It hardly ever fails -- if there's a story about a next-generation videocard or a new supercomputer, it's a safe bet someone is going to ask that question. The main reason, of course, is because the original Crysis was so ahead of its time, or so poorly coded (depending on who you ask), it brought even the burliest of rigs to their knees when cranking up the screen resolution... At the time of NVIDIA's 3-Way SLI launch, we were unable to bring you Crysis benchmark numbers that we felt comfortable with.  This was partly an NVIDIA driver issue and also because we were waiting on a patch from Crytek that would allow for more efficient SLI scaling overall.  With the release of the Cyrsis 1.1 patch, we now have a stable, scalable platform with which to test on....   From the article - "At high quality settings and 1920X1200 resolution, the GeForce 8800 Ultra SLI setup is about 50% faster than a single card.  Three GeForce 8800 Ultras in 3-Way SLI... It's Christmas Day. What the heck are you doing? Fire up Crysis and install this new Christmas present from them: an official Crysis Tournament Mappack. Thing is, Santa didn't drop it down the chimney and it's not on the Crytek site (at least, it's not easy to find). In a way that's probably good: anyone else annoyed at how you have to enter your birthdate every single time you go there?Of course we have prepared a little Christmas present for you as well. Within the past few months and weeks we haven't been working on patches, SDK and Linux Server only, but also our Level Designers have been very... Read more...
