We don't want to go so far as to call the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas the Rocky Balboa of technology conventions, but let's face it, there's a bit of uncertainty in regards to its longevity. Since 2003, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has played host to both a dizzying array of gadgetry and more serious presentations from major computer manufacturers. The fusion occured after Comdex, which had been the major yearly computing show for decades, faltered and was folded into CES. CES remains a major draw each year, but some of the same troubles that ultimately took down Comdex are brewing. In late December, Microsoft announced that CES 2012 would be the company's final show. We're getting close to the end of the year, and that means the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is just around the corner. This is the time when companies gather to show off their new and upcoming products, and you can bet we'll be in attendance. So will MSI, which today announced it plans to unveil a bunch of new notebooks at the show, including "the fastest gaming notebook ever." Oh really? Not that CES (the Consumer Electronics Show) really needs any additional hype, but the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) wants to make sure that even with CES half a year away, that the media and analysts never forget that their technology extravaganza is on the horizon.
