We’ve been impressed with what we’ve seen recently from Corsair, and we were glad that the company saw fit to send us a couple more mid-tower cases to pore over and test: the Corsair Carbide 300R compact gaming chassis and the Obsidian 550D quiet case. The two are dissimilar from one another in terms of design and purpose, but we’ve rolled them into a single review here for efficiency and your reading pleasure. Now that we’ve had a chance to explore and test the Corsair Carbide 300R, we’ve become well acquainted with the whole Carbide family, and the little bro is... Read more...
If there's one thing Chrome is known for besides speed, it's the browser's minimalist interface. Unlike Firefox, which offers several search engines in their own secondary space, Chrome has a very less-is-more attitude towards the UI. The team has recently published several concept designs its currently working on, one of which could end up being the default on a future browser release.   The first image above is the classic browser mode that Chrome currently uses. Below it, on the left, is what Google is calling Compact mode. The image to the right represents "sidetab" configuration. Officially,... Read more...
It's camera week in Germany with the Photokina trade show ongoing, and Leica is obviously a big player in the scheme of things. The company is best known for their professional models and their rangefinders, but the new D-Lux 5 is a new entrant into the compact market. It's modeled after Panasonic's LX5, but thanks to the Leica heritage, it will obviously be far more expensive. It's a small, sleek, compact little guy, totally black and super elite. It includes a 10MP sensor, 3" LCD and support for 720p movie recording. It supposedly has a super fast processing engine, and it ships with a LEICA... Read more...
We do our best to protect our cameras, cell phones, MP3 players, and other electronics from extreme weather conditions, drops, force, and water. It makes sense to do so, given that most of these gadgets don’t stand a chance against a bucket of water, accidental drop, or extreme temperatures. Realizing that life brings its fair share of bumps, spills, and accidents, Olympus has launched an entire line of digital cameras that are designed to take a licking and keep on ticking. The Olympus Stylus Tough-8000 is the top model in Olympus' newly renamed "Tough" series of digital cameras that are made... Read more...
Hard to believe it's been that long isn't it? Or maybe that's not quite right.  With the iPod and other MP3 players, along digital music downloads, perhaps the "Golden Age" of the CD is over, just as it reaches its 25th birthday. It was Aug. 17, 1982, and row upon row of palm-sized plates with a rainbow sheen began rolling off an assembly line near Hanover, Germany. An engineering marvel at the time, today they are instantly recognizable as Compact Discs, a product that turns 25 years old on Friday and whose future is increasingly in doubt in an age of iPods and digital...
