Things aren't looking too great over at Sony. Despite being one of the world's largest and most notable consumer electronics companies, Sony's recent years have been tough. There's no Walkman around to keep the funds flowing like yesteryear, and the competition is tougher than ever. The company announced some while back that it would be forced to lay a fair amount of workers off in order to keep its budget in tact, and now we're learning more about the specifics. The company this week announced "additional steps it is taking to accelerate structural reforms of its headquarters and electronics business... Read more...
Well, it's probably nearing the end of an era. Of course, it's not totally unexpected, and analysts in the industry have seen this day coming for years. The CD is becoming a relic, and children born five to ten years from now will probably view the Compact Disc the same way that teenagers view the vinyl record today. The CD has had an incredible run. It has managed to last decades, and even in an increasingly digital world, the CD has remained a staple of the media and music industry. But that staple may be weakening. Sony use to have three CD manufacturing plants in America. Now they have two.... Read more...
Now here is a swank piece of hardware, folks. Madshrimps just posted a review of Zalman's sleek HD160 Home Theater PC Enclosure. PimpRig takes a look at the Enermax Laureate USB 2.0 Series 5.25" Optical Drive Enclosure, which aims to be a quick problem solver. "The Laureate has to have both the power cord, and the USB plugged in for it to function. The power cord measures close to 10.5', and USB cable is 6.5', which is ample length. The look is very streamlined and clean once all setup. Simply plugging in the USB to my... Read more...
Cluboverclocker has a review of the Cooler Master AMMO 533 ATX PC Enclosure.  This is a full gaming case with carry handle and a real industrial look.  It kind of reminds me of a Pevey guitar amp.  Nonetheless, these guys were impressed with the Ammo 533 ATX case, so take a look and see if it belongs on your holiday wish list. "To help out the gamers, especially those who like to LAN up, Cooler Master has added a new ATX mid-tower enclosure to their product line. The Ammo 533 has all the features you expect wrapped up with some... Read more...
Hey folks, it's really late... really. The last batch of this weekend's news is ready, and we'll have more in about 10 hours, so stay tuned. Goodnight! Samsung SE-W164 DVD Writer @ Bytesector "Today we're taking Samsung's SE-W164 external DVD burner for a spin (no pun intended). The competition is extremely tight, so many different companies are pushing drives with new features and improved capabilities; sometimes you have to wonder about false promises. Will Samsung's latest external hard drive, the SE-W164, deliver on the rated speeds? Is the drive consistent? Is it just as capable as an... Read more...

This is a larger set up than found on the older IceQ 9800 card, but about as silent in actual operation. It's also lighter than the Ultimate cards, and I found it's mounting... Read more...
