As Gaming Notebooks go, there are always going to be trade-offs to make and a balance to strike between performance, weight, and cost.  The Asus G50Vt strikes a happy medium, weighing in at 7.5lbs and around $949 at retail outlets like Best Buy with higher-end SKUs online.  Our system, powered by a Core 2 Duo P8400 at 2.26GHz and an NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS graphics engine, offered top-end multimedia performance and lots of gaming horsepower for all the latest titles.  We'd gladly recommend this machine to anyone looking for a power desktop replacement or semi-portable notebook...Asus... Lenovo's IdeaPad series of notebooks is quite different than the company's popular line up of ThinkPads. Ideapads are currently available in three series of products. Like previous iterations, the Montevina platform consists of a processor, chipset, and a specific wireless network module. New with Montevina, however, are also a fresh batch of 45nm Penryn-derived mobile processors with front side bus frequencies up to 1066MHz. It isn’t just a coincidence that Intel decided to start manufacturing solid state drives (SSDs), nor was it simply a sign that the devices might soon be in high demand.  Intel is planning on manufacturing that demand by featuring them as part of a bundle with their upcoming Centrino 2 platform.“Initial shipments of Intel High Performance SSDs will come in two versions – Client X25-M and Client X18-M – the former having a physical size of 2.5-inch and later 1.8-inch. DigiTimes reports that Intel is preparing to spend $300 million on their campaign to promote the new Centrino Pro (Santa Rosa) platform. Timed around the launch of Microsoft's upcoming Vista operating system, the Centrino Pro platform will also introduce an 800MHz FSB, 4MB of L2 cache, Gigabit and wireless 802.11a/g/n, as well as support for Intel's Active Management (AMT) and Virtualization Technology (VT). No doubt in a rebuttal to AMD's recent acquisition of ATI, HKEPC reports that NVIDIA has officially authorized Intel to have SLI functionality with the company's Centrino mobile platform. The first mobile chipset to have SLI support will be the i945GM/PM Express chipset and that functionality will be unlocked at the software level by Forceware 91.31 drivers. Obviously, this is a huge development for notebook ODM's as they can now address the wildly popular Centrino platform with their multi-GPU efforts.
