If you've ever attempted to take a serious photograph with a cameraphone, you've probably come away disappointed a time or two. Or, perhaps even more. A lot of phones just don't have an advanced autofocusing system, so you're left with either blurry shots taken in haste, or shots that were missed completely because it couldn't focus on the subject in time. DigitalOptics Corporation is hoping to change that with the launch of mems|cam. It's described as a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) autofocus camera module for smartphones, with the modules said to "harness the performance advantages of... Read more...
Cameraphone technology has been evolving for awhile now, and it's not uncommon to see a phone with an 8MP or 12MP camera now. In fact, there are quite a few 8+MP options right now, and even more at 5MP. Not too long ago, just having a 0.3MP or 1.3MP camera onboard was a luxury, but now anything under 3MP seems "last year." Nokia has been known to equip their phones with higher-resolution cameras in the past, and obviously more are on the way. Anssi Vanjoki, an executive within the company, recently said that rapidly evolving cameraphone technology will actually make SLR camera systems obsolete.... Read more...
Cameras have become an integral part of cellphones, and smartphones in particular simply have to have a good camera in order to look legitimate in the face of mounting competition. Just a few years ago, consumers were satisfied if their phone had any sort of camera; today, they want the camera to be of good quality. After all, no one wants their mobile uploads to Facebook or Twitter to be blurry and grainy, right? Many of last year's smartphones were geared towards photogs, with a great number from Asian manufacturers coming with 8MP or 12MP sensors. A few of them even had optical zooms and LED... Read more...

The S5K4EA SoC imager offers adaptive dynamic range expansion capabilities to help brighten shadowed areas of a picture and intensify brighter regions. The imager also has an anti-shake control feature and the ability to process 1080p resolution images... Read more...
We've known that the megapixel race was heating up in the cameraphone arena, and with the introduction of this phone, we'd say the race is approaching full speed. We've already seen a few 8MP cameraphones released, but Samsung's 12MP Pixon12 is going to be the first 12MP phone when it ships later this month. For those really following the sector, you'll know that Sony Ericsson also has a 12MP handset on the horizon, but Samsung is apt to beat SE to the punch in terms of actual release. More formally known as the M8910, the world's first 12 megapixel cameraphone packs a full touchscreen (3.1" AMOLED),... Read more...
