While Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare might not be the best-selling CoD ever, the general consensus seems to be that it offers the freshest multiplayer experience we've seen from the series in quite some time. That's something I'd agree with - it's packed to the gills with features, and who doesn't love that super jump? Admittedly, some might find AW's multiplayer to be a bit too extensive sometimes, which is why the just-released 'One Shot' mode might come as a refreshing addition. At least for those who love hiding behind a sniper rifle. With One Shot, everyone is equipped with the same MORS bolt-action... Read more...
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is another success story for Activision. The latest installment has helped advance the franchise to grossing $10 billion in sales to date and, according to Activision, Advanced Warfare is the number one best-selling console game for this year in the U.S. While the latest Call of Duty game continues the trend of being one the year’s biggest sellers, Advanced Warfare also continues the trend of declining sales numbers over the past couple of years for the franchise. According to Edward Williams of BMO Capital Markets, the sales numbers for Advanced Warfare... Read more...
The Guinness World Records 2015 Gamer’s Edition was released on November 6 for gamers who might be curious as to the longest gaming session, which franchise has earned the most in gross sales, or just basic facts and figures related to gaming. One particular topic that tends to generate discussion is what game franchise is the best. For Guinness, Activision’s first-person shooter franchise, Call of Duty, beat out other franchises, such as Grand Theft Auto and Mario Bros, to be named the best franchise ever. “More than 5,000 fans of the book from 140 countries across the world... Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare developer Sledgehammer Games has announced that it is currently working on an update for the FPS game. The incoming update will make some changes that are based on feedback from the player community and will add bug fixes, optimize connectivity, address certain issues, and polish several things ingame. “Our team has been working hard on improvements to the game,” said Sledgehammer Games co-founder Michael Condrey in a post on the developer’s website. “We’ve also had our ears to the ground, listening to your feedback. The Call of Duty series might not be for everyone, but every time Activision releases a new live-action video, I feel like it'd be a movie that many people would enjoy. They're simply well-put-together, and fun. The latest one, for Advanced Warfare, is no exception. Called "Discover Your Power", this video showcases many of the abilities and items you'll have at your perusal, such as super jumping, on-the-fly ziplines, threat grenades, and also vehicles. Here's what Activision has to say about the video, "Suit up and unleash the raw power of the advanced soldier in the live action trailer for Call... Read more...
Last month, we were given a quick preview of what to expect from Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's multiplayer, and given the introduction of a power jump, it became clear that the game wasn't going to be typical CoD fare. With the just-released "deep dive" trailer, we can really see that this is the case. In fact, multiplayer in Advanced Warfare is so different from previous titles, that diehard fans might even have trouble warming up to it. For starters, a major mechanic in Advanced Warfare is "Boost", which consists of Jump (which we talked about in the last post), Dodge, Slide, Dash, and Slam.... Read more...
When it comes to lucrative game franchises two of the most well-known ones happen to be Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto. Activision publishes the CoD franchise while Take-Two Interactive is responsible for publishing GTA. However, there are rumors floating around that Activision might be trying to purchase Take-Two. Speculation began when a research note from Benchmark analyst Mike Hickey talked about “an emerging romance” between both companies. Hickey said, “For Activision, acquiring Take-Two Interactive would be a no-brainer, in our view, circling some of the strongest development... Read more...
We were given our first preview of Sledgehammer Games' second Call of Duty title, Advanced Warefare, back in May, so to say a multiplayer preview is a little overdue at this point would be a huge understatement. Well, that preview is here, and it comes to us in the form of a trailer. It looks like CoD fans are going to get a lot more of what they love, while CoD haters will get more fuel for their fire. Like CoD: Ghosts, Advanced Warfare will have evolving levels, usually caused by something catastrophic, like an explosion, or a barrier breaking and letting an ocean's worth of water through. I... The first images of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare hit the Web yesterday, in advance of what was supposed to be a proper unveiling this coming Sunday. Activision decided to pull the trigger early, however, and we're glad it did: Advanced Warfare could be the best Call of Duty title we've seen in quite some time. Like Modern Warfare 3, Advanced Warfare (these names bleed creativity, don't they?) is developed by Sledgehammer Games, and it's set to launch on November 4th. At this time, there doesn't seem to be a finalized list of supported platforms, and judging by the fact that the game's official... Read more...
The first of four pieces of DLC to hit Call of Duty: Ghosts is due out at the end of the month (28th for Xbox, later for other platforms), and Activision wants to make sure you understand what makes it so epic. This first DLC is called "Onslaught", and consists of four brand-new multiplayer maps, the first installment of the episodic narrative "Extinction", and a new Maverick rifle that doubles as an assault / sniper rifle. If you're a big gamer, you've no doubt found yourself in a situation where you want to game, but are unable to due to that hassle we call "real life". You might need to go to... Read more...
As nutty as it may seem, the thing I get most excited about whenever the latest Call of Duty drops is the single-player campaign. I know - I should be ashamed. While many consider the story to be the weakest part of any CoD, I eat it up, and given the fact that no CoD has failed to keep me engaged, I have rather high expectations for Ghosts. A new trailer, released just today, helps fuel that further: The thing that might excite me most about Ghosts is the obvious improvement to the game engine. I am not sure if we're going to be seeing Battlefield 4-level graphics here, but it does look like we're... Read more...
Gaming has changed a lot over the years, primarily due to our reliance on the cloud, broadband Internet connections, and the seemingly never-ending desire for more, more, more. Replay value has taken on an entirely new meaning, and for developers, they're able to squeeze more revenue out of existing titles on the shelf. Call of Duty needs no introduction, and those hooked on Black Ops II will find themselves hard-pressed to keep their credit card at bay due to a new DLC available today. Black Ops II Vengeance is now available to download for PlayStation 3 and PC, bringing four new Multiplayer Maps,... Read more...
The CEO of Activision Blizzard Bobby Kotick announced this morning that he would lead an investor buyout of the company worth approximately $8.2 billion dollars. The move would free Blactivision (how has this moniker never caught on?) to become an independent publisher and free it from the clutches of Vivendi, the evil French entertainment conglomerate. Vivendi has reportedly been attempting to sell Activision Blizzard for years, due to an apparent hatred of actually turning a profit, given than the game developer owns some of the most popular franchises on Earth. Kotick, otherwise known as Satan... Read more...
Let's face it: if there's one aspect of gaming that's a bit lacking, it's zombies. To help remedy this obvious void, Call of Duty: Black Ops II developer Treyarch is packing-in a zombie-filled story mode in its upcoming DLC, dubbed "Uprising". If you're already familiar with the base game (which we reviewed at launch), then you're no doubt aware that there already exists a mode for the zombie-killer in all of us. But there was no real story to speak of there, which some considered to be its primary flaw. Uprising includes four multiplayer maps including a reinvisioning of "Firing Range" (now called...
