Bluetooth headsets are a dime a dozen these days, and honestly, they're becoming a little bit "last decade." We haven't seen nearly as many people walking around with them lately, despite the fact that Cellbow is at an all-time high. But Motorola's new H17txt might just change things for the sagging market, as it does something mighty special that most other BT headsets could only dream of: talk back to its owner. That's right. This headset, which will be available solely through Verizon Wireless starting this month, has the ability to speak text messages to the owner, enabling a full handsfree... Read more...
Hey! You! Yeah, you! Put the phone down! Don't you know that's harmful to your health? No, we're not too concerned about those radiation waves flowing into your brain, but more concerned about the potential damage to your arm, elbow and hand. For anyone who has held their smartphone for too long, you know the pain. It starts in your elbow, and slowly moves to your wrist and fingers. It's a tingle, a twinge, a pain that you can't quite describe. But there's no doubt about where it comes from: hoisting that phone up to your ear for too many minutes.Jabra, a company that makes Bluetooth headsets,... Read more...
Why the sudden surge in Bluetooth headsets? Probably because America's largest cellphone trade show is going on in Las Vegas. CTIA has already delivered a snazzy new piece from BlueAnt, and Samsung Mobile is following that up with the introduction of the Modus. Also known as the HM3500, this "convertible-style" headset boasts dual microphone and noise cancelling technology that converts to a Stereo Bluetooth headset for an enhanced mobile experience. It's still not discrete enough for our liking, but if you don't care about looks, the features here are actually pretty nice. Background noise is... Read more...
Bluetooth headset usage has been declining for some time now, and for good reason. They often don't work well, and they always make the user look goofy. But a few companies have managed to stay afloat as the others have died off, with Jabra and BlueAnt being at the top of the heap. The latter company has just introduced a new Bluetooth headset today, and unlike most of the others, this one actually has something to differentiate it. The T1 is actually "rugged," boasting "groundbreaking durability and wind noise reduction" that isn't found on most "normal' headsets. It's the first headset the company... Read more...
We're accustomed to seeing various apps and app stores for mobile phones, but this is something new: Bluetrek recently launched an online app store for its Bluetrek Crescendo Bluetooth headset. The Talk2Me App Store lets users upload applications and works to enhance the usage experience of the headset. One of the applications available today is called Personal Handsfree Assistant, a service from Dial2Do that will read your emails and lets you reply to and send emails and text messages using your voice. Another offering, Bing411 voice search, provides easy access to stock quotes, sports scores,... Read more...

We've heard facts that claim cell phones are perfectly safe and other pieces of information that say cell phones are dangerous. Now, a new website from ProCon.org is available to help you decide for yourself. Even though the radio frequency (RF) radiation levels in cell phones are regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and generally considered to be safe when used properly, there is still plenty of research that shows cell phone use could cause cancer, disrupt pacemakers, decrease fertility, damage DNA, and increase the risk of traffic accidents. The FCC and other government agencies... Read more...
Finally, some confirmation that we actually aren't crazy. Well, too crazy. We always wondered where exactly the crowds were that were responsible for buying up all of these Bluetooth headsets, and while we'd see one or two self-talkers walking around the mall every so often, we never saw these things as being incredibly popular. Now, a new research study into the matter finds that owners of Bluetooth headsets in the US are using them less often than they used to. Way less frequently, actually. The numbers show that just 26% of BT headset owners use their devices every day, which is down from 43%... Read more...
We've got to hand it to them--Jabra has outdone itself here in the design department. The company's new HALO Bluetooth headset is unlike any BT headset we've ever seen, with a slick over-the-head design that looks less like a traditional set of cans and more like some sort of space-wear. The headphones collapse down for easy transport, and they can connect to a Bluetooth device that's up to 30 feet away. The headset weighs just three ounces and is compatible with pretty much any Bluetooth media player or cellphone out there; it's even able to sync with two BT devices at once. There's a built in... We're still not convinced that we could comfortably walk around with a Bluetooth headset hung around our ear in public, but for those who don't mind making others think that they're talking to them whilst walking down the street, Samsung has a smattering of new options that look pretty darn stylish. The flagship device is the WEP870, which actually combines a Bluetooth headset with earbuds in order to make you look just a bit smarter while using it. We kid, we kid! The WEP870 is a mono-style headset with chrome trim and a graphite finish that can be worn on either ear, and thanks to the multi-connection... Read more...
XYZ Computing has published a lengthy review covering four different Bluetooth headsets. With the cheapest one being $130, they're all decent headsets, but the BT800 makes the biggest impression. "With so many Bluetooth headsets on the market it had been a real challenge to pick only 3 or 4, each had to be worth spending a week with to evaluate. I've owned some Motorola headsets in the past, such as the H700 and HS850, and was mildly impressed at most and stopped using them after about 2 weeks. So I decided it was time to leave the mobile phone manufacturer's headsets and place a call... Read more...
