Are you ready to learn about yet another protocol? Believe it or not, it's time. Bluetooth SIG, the entity behind all of the Bluetooth releases that we know and love (or don't know) has just revealed that version 4.0 is ready to be adopted. What's crazy is that version 3.0 was in this same position early last year, yet to date only a handful of devices (like the Samsung Wave smartphone) have shipped with Bluetooth 3.0 support. It's hard to say why the Bluetooth SIG is moving on so quickly. Bluetooth 2.0 garnered an incredible amount of support. Nearly every major and minor portable electronics... Read more...
Tablet PCs may be eating away at the market share of netbooks, but that's not to say that netbooks are done and over with. They aren't even close to being old hat, and we'd argue that they still have quite some ways to go in terms of evolution. According to a new report, the Bluetooth 4.0 wireless specification could begin to appear on devices before the end of the year, but we're wondering just how accurate an assumption like this is. Bluetooth 3.0 is still... Read more...
SuperSpeed USB seems to be the hot transfer protocol these days, mostly because the coming out parties at IDF and CES went over really well. Tons of companies are voicing their support for the next-generation USB solution, and it should only be a few more months before we see a number of machine shipping with USB 3.0. But a protocol that many seemed to have forgotten about is Bluetooth 3.0.We get the feeling that it will be brought back to our attention in a big way at Mobile World Congress, which starts in just a few weeks in Spain. Many new cellphone and mobile technologies are expected to be... Read more...
