Investors and analysts agree, Research In Motion needs to do something to reinvigorate its market position and prevent legions of once-loyal BlackBerry users from transitioning en masse to Android and iOS devices. Whether the company's newly announced music service is going to do anything to stem the tide is, however, a matter of debate. Research In Motion plans to roll out an updated version of its high-end BlackBerry Bold smartphone in time for the holidays. Targeted at the company's base of professional users and wealthy consumers, the latest Bold handheld is thinner and lighter than its predecessor which hit the market last year. The new Bold 9700 also has a new touch-sensitive optical trackpad instead of the original's track ball. The iPhone gets all the headlines, but Research In Motion's (RIM) BlackBerry device is still how the vast majority of business smartphone warriors roll. RIM announced yesterday their next generation smartphone; they call it the BlackBerry Bold. The most striking feature of the Bold is its display. It runs at the same 320x480 resolution as the iPhone, but since the display is smaller, the screen seems even sharper.
