While power users sit in patient anticipation of Intel's Ivy Bridge platform, which seems like it's taking forever to launch, AMD just keeps doing its thing. AMD's "thing," of course, is competing on the bang-for-buck front, and towards that end, the Sunnyvale chip maker is reportedly getting ready to launch a couple of new FX Series processors. Turkish website Donanimhaber got its hands on a leaked roadmap of sorts and it shows AMD slotting in the FX-4130, a quad-core CPU clocked with a base frequency of 3.8GHz and a 3.9GHz Turbo clockspeed. HKEPC reports that AMD will launch FX-64 during the last quarter of this year. What's even more interesting is AMD's plan to make the entire Athlon 64 X2 line of processors available in a 65W version by Q3. Existing models will come in 65W and 89W flavors but the 5200+ will only be available in the 65W variety. "According to the latest roadmap of AMD, 65W TDP and the normal version are merged together, product in 5200+ or lower are all 65W TDP, while Athlon 64 FX 5400+(2.8GHz/512KBx2 L2) and 5600+(2.8GHz/1MBx2 L2) coming in 2007 Q1 are still kept at 89W TDP."  ... The Inquirer is reporting that gaming enthusiasts can rejoice with a late Christmas present from AMD in the way of launching their new flagship Athlon FX-60 processor in January. Without question, this will be the fastest gaming processor on the planet at that time. If you're dying to give that new GeForce 7800GTX or Radeon X1800XT some relief from any CPU bottlenecks, you'd best start saving those pennies now.THE AMD FX-60 is due out in the second week of January.
