Sony may use serial keys to verify legal PS3 games in the wake of the complete PS3 hacks publicized earlier this month, but the efficacy of such a plan is dubious at best. The Dutch website PS3-Sense reports that a very reliable source close to Sony has informed them that Sony will begin issuing unique serial keys for all PS3 games at some point in the near future. The client-server support for such a security model has reportedly existed in the PlayStation Network since the console launched—if true, Sony could deploy the system in considerably less time than it would otherwise take. Microsoft's Office Genuine Advantage program (OGA), is no more. Reportedly, Microsoft has quietly retired the program, which formerly was used to validate an Office installation before add=ins or templates could be downloaded, without fanfare. In fact, Ed Bott discovered that Microsoft mentioned the shutdown in a KB article, 917999. One sentence at the beginning of the article says: "The Office Genuine Advantage (“OGA”) program has been retired." Additionally, at the top of the KB article, the article is now said to be "Retired KB Content," with a Last Review date of December 17, 2010.... Read more...
Let's be clear, this is a way to try, not indefinitely use different versions of Windows 7 from one DVD or .ISO image. A small tweak will allow users tech-savvy enough to get a taste of all the versions of Windows 7. Now, why do you need a little technical expertise? You need to remove a file from the DVD or from the .ISO image. As Windows Secrets notes, all you have to do is delete the ei.cfg file. To make things easier for you, the ei.cfg file is in the sources subdirectory (WS didn't indicate its location). It's simple enough: if you have an .ISO file use an appropriate .ISO imaging program... Read more...
... but only from AT&T. If you go to AT&T's site, you can buy an iPhone 3G online, and have it delivered the next day (free). Ah, the comforts of being able to skip the store (as with the original iPhone). Apple, on the other hand, has no such online buying option on their site. AT&T is actually shipping the phone pre-activated, but typical of other AT&T phones you can order and have delivered, you have to talk to a customer rep on the phone to accept their terms and conditions with customer care or else online at att.com. After that, you just sync it to iTunes and you are good... Read more...
Microsoft's made no secret of the fact that a patch for Vista - sans the SP1 update - will disable the OEM BIOS Hack and Grace Time Hack some use to get around activation.  Naturally, SP1 will do so as well, but if you try to get around it, you can only avoid it if you disable / hide the update. The release of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 not only heralded a long-awaited update of the operating system, it also meant the end of two common Windows Vista anti-activation exploits - the Grace Timer exploit and the Paradox OEM BIOS activation crack. But those who think they can escape by not updating... Read more...
