If you were hoping that Apple would wise up and increase the storage capacity of its next generation, entry-level iPhone, you ‘ll probably have to wait until next year (or beyond). Images of the iPhone 6S logic board have surfaced ahead of its launch later this fall, and they show a device that comes equipped with 16GB of Toshiba flash storage, which is built on a 19nm process. Given the fact that Apple doesn’t provide a microSD slot for expanding storage, 16GB can get cramped really fast with just a handful of games, apps, and a modest music library. Apple has run into issues in the past with... Read more...
Google enjoyed surpassing Apple long ago with regards to shipping Android devices (it currently sits at about 75%), and today, it can gloat about having the more active app store, too. However, where Apple's concerned, there's usually more than meets the eye, and depending on your perspective, it still places first - where it counts. During Q2, Google's Play store generated 10% more downloads, but it reported less than half the revenue; Google sits at about ~$45 million, Apple at ~$100 million. Part of Google's boost came from India and Brazil, the latter which now joins India and Russia to sit... Read more...
The mobile market is no place for wimps; competition is very steep and very fierce, and even giants with deep pockets like Microsoft can’t seem to compete. According to Forbes, Windows Phones are actually in jeopardy of disappearing in the U.S. and in Europe after sales of Nokia Lumia phones (essentially the flagship devices for Windows Phone 8) dropped to half a million units in North America last quarter. Apple’s iPhone still does brisk business at the high end, and the forthcoming rumored “low cost” iPhone will no doubt take a bite out of midrange sales. Android is flourishing... Read more...
We’ve heard rumors already that Apple will debut a less expensive iPhone this summer, but today another analyst chimed in with another spin of the rumor mill and further details. According to Topeka Capital Brian White (via SFGate), who has been chatting up supply chain sources on a visit to China, the cheaper iPhone is indeed coming. "At the China trade show, we had the opportunity to interact with various suppliers and vendors, including those working with Apple," he said in a note to investors. "Our general takeaway around Apple is that a lower-priced iPhone and the iPhone 5S will be announced... Read more...
Believe it or not, this isn't the first time we've heard that Apple was toying with the idea of disrupting the watch market. But this time, the timing may be right. As with the iPad, Apple has a tendency to feel out the market and then strike when the iron's hot. Tablets existed for years prior to the iPad, but seemingly, the world wasn't quite ready for them until the original iPad hit. Ever since, they've been eating away at the laptop market. Smart watches have a similar tale. Even Fossil had a Bluetooth watch years ago that operated with Sony Ericsson handsets, but that eventually went nowhere.... Read more...
Not even a week after Apple held a press event to announce the iPhone 5 (and new iPod models), the company's share price has shot up and above the $700 mark, ending the day at $702.10 on Wednesday. Apple's market capitalization now sits at $658.15 billion, an obscenely high valuation that underscores the legacy Steve Jobs left behind. Credit should be given to Tim Cook as well. He had big shoes to fill when Jobs passed away, and Apple is more valuable than ever before under his helm. Of course, Apple had enough momentum going that, in the short term, it would have seen some measure of success no... Read more...
