NVIDIA has historically taken a somewhat different approach when announcing its newest Titan-branded graphics cards, that differs from the measured, methodical launches of its more mainstream consumer products. Tonight’s announcement, however, takes the cake. We just received details from NVIDIA regarding an upcoming ultra-powerful, Pascal-based Titan X, featuring a 12 billion transistor GPU, codenamed GP102. A couple of weeks back, just in time to rain on AMD’s Radeon RX 480 parade, NVIDIA revealed a few details about the GeForce GTX 1060. We didn’t have actual performance numbers to share, but NVIDIA revealed GTX 1060 Founder’s Edition’s pricing, core count, clocks, memory configuration, TDP, and physical characteristics. They also claimed the card would offer performance in the same class as the GeForce GTX 980. We reported over the weekend that a few different vendors have been teasing their upcoming GeForce GTX 1060 models, which for an unreleased card is quite interesting, but it has helped increase the momentum of NVIDIA's hype train. Now, ZOTAC has decided to get in on the action by announcing its own models that are going to cater to those with SFF builds: two ITX versions of the GeForce GTX 1060. It's been quite an eventful week since AMD took the veil off of its latest graphics card, the Radeon RX 480. Right out of the gate, murmurs of issues began to surface around the internet, largely focusing on the amount of power that gets pulled through a motherboard's PCIe slot. AMD has been disseminating information about its Polaris architecture and the Radeon RX 480 for months now. If you’re a regular reader of HotHardware, you should already know that Polaris is AMD’s next-gen GPU architecture, designed for FinFET transistor technology. Polaris also ushers in the 4th generation of AMD’s GCN (Graphics Core Next) architecture. There is one constant in the world of supercomputers: no one is going to be 'fastest' for long. In fact, some supercomputers can seem downright slow after only a couple of years, as hardware continues to become faster and more dense. Take for example Oak Ridge's TITAN supercomputer. Launched in 2013, this supercomputer managed to push about 20 petaFLOPs of throughput (17.59 pFLOPs LINPACK; 27 pFLOPs theoretical). At the time, that was downright mind-blowing. The powerful GeForce GTX 1080 got the lion’s share of media attention immediately following NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang’s official unveiling at an event in Austin, Texas a couple of weeks back. But its little brother, the GeForce GTX 1070, was also mentioned along with its expected price point, which just happened to be far more attainable for most PC enthusiasts. A few weeks back, during its GPU Technology Conference, NVIDIA announced a new Quadro-branded graphics card for the professional workstation market. That card is the Quadro M2000 we’ll be showing you here today. The Quadro M2000 is a low-power pro graphics solution featuring a GPU based on NVIDIA’s Maxwell architecture. AMD has officially turned on the hype machine for Polaris, its next generation GPU architecture that will eventually be the foundation of a new family of Radeon GPUs from top to bottom. In anticipation of its launch later this year, AMD has erected a dedicated Polaris page on its website that highlights the various technologies and features involved. At the risk of not wanting to count chickens before they hatch, it's pretty hard to not be excited for AMD right now. For so many years, the company has struggled to increase its share value due to a lack of truly competitive products.
