When Samsung first introduced its F1 series of hard drives several years ago, the company was pushing its way through the terabyte barrier, joining a then elite club of high-capacity drive makers. Now in its fourth generation, Samsung is kicking off its new SpinPoint F4 series with a 320GB hard drive designed for "superior performance and high reliability," the company announced. Today Western Digital announced volume availability of their newest addition to the Caviar family of desktop hard drives, now sporting a whopping 320GB per-platter areal denisty, based on 250Gb (gigabit) per square inch platter technology.  The first drive out of the gate is a 320Gb model but higher densities are to follow... Hey folks, it's pretty late but the news just doesn't stop :) It's not exactly computer hardware, but Nintendo has revealed their design for Revolution's controller. At first I was a little disappointed, but after thinking about how it could change the way games are played, I'm actually excited about it. There are only so many different genres you can invent, only so many different story lines you can write... really, there are only so many ideas. I'm taking valuable time away from a Red Sox game right now, so you better enjoy the news :) WD 320GB PATA HDD @ Hardware Avenue "PATA is still considered by many as the HDD standard of choice - IDE cables are not ideal, but when using specialized rounded cables, they become far less of a problem air flow wise and actually aren't too bad in comparison to SATA cables. The HDD makers are aware that not everyone has bought into the rather slow moving SATA market so you'll still find high end HDD's featured on the PATA standard... Read more...
