Intel officially announced the new SSD 320 Series drives yesterday, which feature proprietary Intel SSD processors paired to cutting edge 25nm NAND flash memory. This new family of drives, however, isn’t geared for ultra-high performance. While still fast, the overarching goals with the Intel SSD 320 series were increased reliability and security. Today Western Digital announced volume availability of their newest addition to the Caviar family of desktop hard drives, now sporting a whopping 320GB per-platter areal denisty, based on 250Gb (gigabit) per square inch platter technology.  The first drive out of the gate is a 320Gb model but higher densities are to follow... Just in case you're the type who likes to skip right to the news, we wanted to let you know we've got a new article live featuring Asus' take on the recently released GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB, the aptly named EN8800GTS/HTDP/320M. Unlike a few other 320MB GTS cards, the Asus EN8800GTS/HTDP/320M is not pre-overclocked from the factory. It does ship with a decent accessory bundle, however, that includes a couple of full version games. Here we are, barely 12 weeks out from the initial introduction of the GeForce 8 series, and NVIDIA is ready with yet another new product based on the GPU formerly code named G80. The new GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB we'll be showcasing here today is essentially the same card as the original 8800 GTS, except that the 320MB model simply has half of the amount of frame buffer memory. The crew at Xbit labs have posted an interesting review of the DFI LANParty UT ICFX3200-T2R/G motherboard. What makes this article a bit more intriguing that some other mobo reviews, is that the ICF3200-T2R/G is based on ATI's (now AMD's) RD600 chipset. Stepping back to look at who has the largest market share in the chipset sector for AMD socket AM2 processors, it's clear who is on top and who is not.  Take virtually any major motherboard manufacturer and see what they have to offer and in most cases, NVIDIA chipset solutions are going to dominate the product list.  It's a little ironic when you take into account the merger between AMD and ATI, but it's a safe assumption that AMD and ATI will be working to level the playing field in the near future as they work on their roadmap product offering together. ATI's chipset division, talented as they are, seem to have always played second fiddle to rival nVidia. Both nVidia and ATI started originally producing chipsets in 2001/2002 for low-end markets, using their experience in producing graphics processors as leverage to produce chipsets with integrated graphics abilities. Over time, both nVidia and ATI have become more experienced producing chipsets, eventually dropping the integrated graphics elements from their high-end products and targeting the enthusiast / gamer markets, who purchase more expensive add-in graphics cards.
