ZOMM Puts Your Cell Phone on a Leash

How many times did your mother tell you growing up that you'd lose your head if it wasn't screwed on? As it turns out, she was feeding you a line of bull, but what she should have said instead is that if you're not more careful, you'll end up misplacing your pricey smartphone. It happens to all of us, whether it falls out of our pants pocket in a cab or we leave it on the table in a restaurant. Or maybe you walked out of the house without your phone. It's situations like these where ZOMM's digital leash could save the day.

The concept is pretty simple. Just attach the silver-dollar sized device to your keychain or anything else you always keep on your person and pair it with any Bluetooth enabled phone. Wander off too far from your phone and the ZOMM device will alert you via vibration, flashing lights, or by sounding an alarm, the company explains.

ZOMM is accepting pre-orders now, which runs $80 for the device and will begin shipping this summer.

Bluetooth SIG Recognizes ZOMM as “One to Watch”

KIRKLAND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) today recognized the makers of ZOMMTM for its one-of-a-kind application of Bluetooth® technology in the world’s first wireless leash for mobile phones that also features call notification and personal security capabilities. Capturing a 2010 Best of Innovations Award at CES, this device has been recognized by the Bluetooth SIG as “One to Watch” because of its multiple use case scenarios, broad consumer appeal, and conventional application of wireless technology.

Additionally, ZOMM contains a panic alarm that can call emergency assistance from anywhere in the world with just the push of a button.

“Through the use of Bluetooth wireless technology, ZOMM provides an array of convenient applications for users,” said Michael Foley, Ph.D., executive director of the Bluetooth SIG. “Its simple application of Bluetooth technology appeals to the masses – nobody wants to lose their mobile phone.”
