Steve Wozniak is famous for many things, including co-founding Apple Computer with Steve Jobs, creating the Apple I and Apple II computers, bringing the first universal TV remote control to market, crashing an airplane, teaching high school, organizing the US Festivals, and even playing Segway polo; but perhaps one of few things he is not publically know for is being a dancer. But now in a growing list of new endeavors, Wozniak--also known as "The Woz"--will be putting on his dancing shoes (presumably without his ubiquitous Segway) and joining the cast as a contestant on the eighth season of ABC's Dancing With the Stars
, which premieres on March 9.
ABC is billing "The Woz" as "a computer icon
." He will be joining 12 other stars, including singer Belinda Carlisle from the 80's pop band the Go-Go's, comedian David Alan Grier, singer Jewel and her rodeo-star husband Ty Murray, actress Denise Richards, rapper Lil' Kim, and Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson. Each star gets a short bio on the Dancing With the Stars website; Wozniak's states:"STEVE WOZNIAK -- A Silicon Valley icon and philanthropist for the past three decades, Steve Wozniak, a.k.a. The Woz, helped shape the computer industry with his design of Apple's first line of products, the Apple I and II, and influenced the popular Macintosh. After leaving Apple Computer Inc. in 1985, Wozniak was involved in various business and philanthropic ventures, focusing primarily on computer capabilities in schools and stressing hands-on learning and encouraging creativity for students. In 2000, he was inducted into the Inventors Hall of Fame and was awarded the prestigious Heinz Award for Technology, The Economy and Employment. Wozniak is also a published author with the release of his New York Times Best Selling autobiography, iWoz: From Computer Geek to Cult Icon, in September 2006."

For those not familiar with Dancing With the Stars
, it is actually based on a British TV show called Strictly Come Dancing
, where celebrities are partnered up with professional dancers, and compete against each other in an elimination contest of professionally-choreographed partner dances. With Dancing With the Stars
, viewers cast votes for their favorite dancers via phone, texting, and online. The couple with the lowest number of votes is eliminated and does not get to return to the competition the following week.
This will not be Wozniak's first brush with the limelight. He appeared several times on comedian Kathy Griffin's TV show, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List
, as Griffin's boyfriend. Wozniak has also appeared in a series of tongue-in-cheek online videos for Scottevest
. But the real question everyone is asking now that his appearance on Dancing With the Stars
has been confirmed, is can he really dance? We'll find out soon enough... There will probably be more nerds, geeks, and Apple fanboys watching Dancing With the Stars
on March 9 than have ever watched the show before. Will we be watching? Yes, of course we will!
