Heck yes, Win7 Ultimate for under 200 bucks. OEM is awesome, specially for those of us that build our own machines and dont need MS support for anything other than that pesky reactivation from time to time when you bork an install overclocking and reinstall and register again to early for their computers to let you register again. |
Microsoft's created the dream business model: Make your normal prices so high that everyone buys the OEM version and gets no support. |
I got that emailed from newegg at 3 am in the mornig, great timming. The funny thing is that Bill Gates according to Forbes is still #1 Billionare, with Vista issue. I can't imagine how much $ he would make with this version that everyone praises... |
ooh, I think 3vi1 is on to something here! Still, since I can't get a .edu account in time, I'm heading over to Newegg. It's not like tech support on my retail Microsoft purchases has been anything to write home about.
[edit] ...Or maybe not. The product listing has a mysterious acronym, "DSP," which I doubt refers to "digital signal processor." It was neither explained in the product listing nor on the Newegg FAQ. I asked Newegg, they sent me boilerplate telling me to bug someone else, and I cancelled my preorder; if you don't know what you're selling, I don't want to buy from you. |
I BOUGHT THE PRE-ORDER OEM! HELL YEA! BEATS PAYING $600 FOR AN OS...BTW DSP means “Delivery Service Partner.” It is a version of OEM software
used by smaller computer manufacturers and system builders.
I CANT STAND POSERS (NOOBS) |
Thank you, rodriro, and my apologies for offending your sensibilities. I assure you that it's not a common acronym; otherwise, wouldn't the Newegg customer service personnel have known it? |
I like the OEM prices, only a little higher than the previous pre-order prices. But! If your college is nice (like mine) and gives you a .edu email address for life then the 29.99 "student" version (or ~$43 if you want a DVD) is a much better deal. |
Im getting a Windows 7 Ultimate signature edition from Microsoft. |
The question is, who signed it? |
I hope you guys know that you won't be paying $30 through your school. That preorder gets them some more cash out of you. Put it this way, I bought Vista Ultimate from my school for $15. I'm pretty sure that I won't be paying as much as $30 through my school. |
Get me one I,ll give 60 LOL Really though Full 7 ultimate at $200 is not bad at all! Im still saving up my pennies to get me a new moniter for my rig its old and now its getting hard to read the text so dont think the old clunkers is going to hang much longer besides its embarrasing to have that clunker attached to that incredible Rig.Always will be thankfull for the win! And when I get the right parts Im going to get it to 4ghz! LOL dont know how stable it will be HA! HA! but going to get it there! |
I LoL'd. |
That's why we love newegg and the others that offer it at the oem price! |
I already have Windows 7 Professional (from my brother with MSDN) but these OEM prices are good enough to warrant a comment. It's still way more expensive than what software should be (I like Apple's pricing), but it's an improvement over Windows Vista pricing. |
crap pricing for users when Dell et al get windows for super cheap. how can small system builders compete on pricing with HP, Dell et al when they're losing 50 or more on the OS? =\ |
