3TB hard drives are not completely unheard of. Months back, Seagate introduced a single drive with 3TB of capacity, and now Western Digital is doing the same. But this isn't just a component hard drive that you can stuff into your existing desktop; instead, it's being offered within the My Book Essential, a new USB 3.0 drive with the most space ever for a drive in this range.


WD is also catering to portable hard drive users with updates in the My Passport Essential and Essential SE lines.
