Vista SP-1 Before The End Of The Year?

InformationWeek is reporting that Intel CEO Paul Otellini let slip that Vista will get its first service pack sometime in October or November:
"Microsoft isn't saying when, but in an apparent slip of the tongue during an earnings call with analysts, Paul Otellini, president and CEO of Intel, said the first Windows Vista Service Pack is scheduled for release in October or November.

Among the questions Otellini was asked on Tuesday following the release of Intel's first-quarter financial results was what impact Vista would have on Intel financially in the second half of the year. In his answer, Otellini slipped in the timetable, while giving the expected response that companies were waiting to deploy Vista."
This is good news for the troubled OS, which has been at the receiving end of numerous complaints of compatibility problems and performance issues since its launch earlier this year.

I hope Otellini is right, but he could just be estimating himself. The sooner Vista SP1 hits though, the better. I think plenty of enthusiasts want to be using Vista, but don't want to deal with the issues.

Many manufacturers dropped the ball too with regard to their drivers. They all know the OS was coming, and yet almost everyone's drivers are in a sorry state.

I MIGHT get Vista when SP-1 comes out.

Till then its too buggy and neurotic for my liking. If I want to run a program once, I want to run it every time.

I've actually had good luck as well. My only issues have been with FSX, which is solely due to NVIDIA's drivers. Other than that, seems pretty solid.

I'll believe it when I see it, especially considering it seems rather quick for an MS SP...BUT I have also heard from sources that it is slated for Q4 of this year.

That being said, I haven't had any problems with Vista on a Toshiba tablet that I put it on at work. All of you IT workers out there, let's all cringe together as we imagine rolling out IE7, then Office 2007 and then Vista!!! I, for one, am not looking forward to those roll-outs because they are all big changes in user experience.
