Turkey Arrests 32 Anonymous Members

Turkey Arrests 32 Anonymous Members

Turkey has set itself up to be hacked, as it has announced it has detained 32 individuals allegedly linked to the hacker group.  Turkey's state run news agency said the arrests took place across 12 cities, including Ankara and Istanbul.

Earlier, it was reported that Spain had detained three Anonymous members as well. In reprisal, Anonymous claimed it executed a DDoS attack, taking Spain's National Police website offline.

Turkey's action came in response to the hacking of the website of Turkey's Directorate of Telecommunications. Anonymous took that website was down last Thursday as a protest against what Anonymous says is planned government censorship of the Internet. Turkey plans to implement Internet content filtering in August.

Prior to last week's attacks on Turkey, Anonymous posted the following on its blog:
"Over the last few years, we have witnessed the censorship taken by the Turkish government, such as blocking YouTube, Rapidshare, Fileserve and thousands of other websites. Most recently, the government banned access to Google services. These acts of censorship are inexcusable."
Now the big question is: how long will it take Anonymous to respond, and which Turkish site will they take down this time?

This group is getting out of control. It's one thing to fight for internet freedom, but doing it through illegal actions just destroys the whole cause. Where are they going to draw the line. I get that DDoS attacks are pretty much harmless, but it makes me wonder what are they going to do next in the cyber world.

Their latest Press Release is posted on their site. http://anonops.blogspot.com/2011/06/spain-anonymous-takes-down-national.html

"Agreed, next thing you know, they start taking down Sports site just cause their favorite team did not win, and no , I don't mean this as a joke, its stuff that happens when there is no balance of power and leadership within the group and people start to abuse their power and personal urges , too many examples of this through out history"

Manduh,

The group is getting out of control? Are you actually serious? I have come to the conclusion by your posts, you are someone that will just stand by and take what ever is dished out. You, yes YOU have a lot of reading to do before you make such a statement.

How is it you can actually think Anon. is the problem? If you actually read the links you posted or read what they are doing, it is for the greater good.

Now to really make you nervous.

It is in great fortune of leaders that men do not think. This quote has been applicable to the censoring by several governments for the greater part of history. Anonymous is not a terrorist group. Anonymous does not have members. Anonymous is attempting to break the chains that are being created to enslave everyone from the freedoms that we have been granted.

Manduh, the fact that the great majority of individuals sit around while corporations and the government abuse of their financial strength is what is getting out of control and is illegal. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if you feel that your freedom is not being compromised or the fact that corporations are making millions in profits thanks to you, well feel free to continue being reticent. There is a need for a new revolution, where the mask of the federal government is removed to show the true face of manipulation, greed, and deceit. They know this, which is why they are arresting individuals as a scare tactic. Furthermore, disobedience is carried out by those that do not follow the structure of government implemented by the people, for the people. Anonymous is just following suit and returning the favor.

@mandduh wow way to miss the point of activism. Civil liberites are not something a goverment should take away on a whim. If the us were to start blocking sites I would not leave the protest to just website. There would be blood in the streets. These are serious crimes against humanity when your messing with the free flow of information. Your shooting your own people in the foot when it come to competition and knowledge.

Anon does what it does a warning for now. Your right these attacks are basically peaceful protests. Lets hope the people with money/ power dont take this to lightly before it does become war on both the cyber front and home front.

LOL, Manduh

/b/ are out of control? Are you new to the internet?

0
+ -

Well if this keeps going on, the question is, will Anonymous hide itself, or will it retaliate?

They have already started:

"Saturday the infamous, international Internet hactivist collective known as Anonymous launched a successful DDoS attack against the Spanish National Police website. The attack is a direct response to the Friday arrests of three individuals alleged to be associated with acts of cyber civil disobedience attributed to Anonymous."

Anonymous doesn't have members. Check your facts before publishing false content.

well, they're not anonymous anymore. They might have been, now they're just people with names.

So, I suppose the real victims (Sony, PBS, CitiGroup, EpicGames’, etc. customers/users, some of whom are minors, mind you) of all these hacks are simply collateral damage resulting in the fight against evil governments and greedy corporations who abuse the little people?!

UTTER HYPOCRISY!!!!

Aren’t these hackers aware that they are the abusers of the little people? Posting personal and financial information online for fraudsters, scammers, and other hackers to see is merely perpetuating more abuse of these victims. Do you like having your credit history ruined, quite possibly for the rest of your life? Apparently, these hackers don’t know what sort of damage a ruined credit history could do to a young adult or teenager. Can you imagine an 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 year old kid being denied student loans because his credit history has been #$%!*% by criminals who got access to his accounts?? Even if he manages to get loans, the interest payments would be sky high. “No college for this kid; he’ll have to join the military and fight FOR the evil governments.”

Ok… ok… you are probably thinking they posted all this info as proof of the hack attacks and their l33t skills…. Sure. Some convicts in prison like to boast about their rapes, murders, robberies, assaults to other convicts because it makes them look like a hard-ass mo-fo.

@omega

Ehhhh maybe these kids getting denied student loans wouldn't be such a bad thing :-P

Private student loans sure do take advantage of these kids. Interest rates are already high, and the students misuse them and end up way over their heads in debt and then they get out of college and make $30,000 a year while trying to pay off well over $100,000 of loans...

But anyway... What annonymous has been doing is annoying to the people on the receiving end of it. But then they move along and nothing has changed. In some cases (sony) it affects the innocent bystanders like myself that don't want anything to do with this drama and we get caught up in the cross fire. And what has annonymous fixed or changed? OtherOS is still gone, that dude still got sued, PSN was down for way too long and now a ton of people's financial information is all over the web. Awesome.... so the only thing that happened was things got worse...

LOL PFeenstra. All these articles about hackers are pretty interesting, keep us detailed on what happens :).

Shared a link to this story yesterday in a thread that seemed to have lost it's path. But at least a discussion' remains. remarks were already made in reference in the Embarrassing moments thread [doghouse] who knows? from of the previous and somewhat abusive remarks to members there may be a few more.

I'm glad they got them... and I hope they get the rest of them too.

There are other ways to solve problems, than illegal methods. These people need to learn that hacking is a crime, breaking into a server is like breaking into someone's house... how can you justify the cause?

I don't care what they try to say, there are other methods to get things done. The only reason they hide and remain "Anonymous" is because they don't have the courage to actually support what they believe.

You don't raise awareness of world hunger by going out of your way to starve 1,000 people. Why should this be any different? When will they realize, that they are only contributing to the problems which they are trying to fight to 'fix'?

Yes I do stay informed and read quite a bit, and I'm smart enough to form MY OWN opinion.

@Ebanon said it in their post: "Everyone is entitled to their own opinion" and in my opinion, two wrongs don't make a right.

So instead of attacking me, don't you have some protesting to do?

I'm going to straighten something out right now,

ANYONE can be anon;

black hat hackers

hacktivists

corporations

that one 14yr old kid down the street

Anon is more or less be a scapegoat for anyone looking to point the finger.

in the US people when arrested and charged are presumed to be innocent ,

In other countries that's not always the case....oh well
