Toshiba's 7" Thrive Android 3.2 Tablets Ships Today, Starts At $379.99

Toshiba's 7" Thrive Android 3.2 Tablets Ships Today, Starts At $379.99

We suspect that the wave of low-cost Android tablets will fully hit at CES 2012, but Toshiba's trying to get in a little early. The Thrive isn't a Fire-priced slate, but with two models starting at $379.99, it's certainly not as pricey as the market-leading iPad. The 7" Android tablet boasts a 1280x800 native resolution, NVIDIA's Tegra 2, a 5MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, a microSD slot, USB port, Micro HDMI port, DLNA support and Bluetooth. Android 3.2 is the OS onboard, and there's also built-in GPS. The real news, however, is that it's shipping in the U.S. starting today, so if you've had your eye on it, now's the time to jump.

Very nice 7" tablet and it sounds like it should have plenty of power under the hood :) Still can't really afford 379.99 and I have a feeling that tablet prices will continue to drop.

Nice, very full-featured tablet but they have to get the price down to compete with the Kindle Fire.

Hey look, it's the Handibook!

All kidding aside; it's a good tablet but shave $79 of the price and it'd be a deal. As it stands, it's reasonable.

Not bad, But the price is a tad steep....

Predicting the obvious: Tablet prices will fall and options will increase in 2012 as countless new tablets launch at CES 2012.

I don't even understand why companies make 7" tablets. I understand the idea of giving people options, but 7" is barely big enough for a robust tablet experience. I'd be starting off at no lower than 9" in terms of the display. 7" makes it just like a really big smartphone beyond the fact that the price they're asking for isn't all that much of a value.

Any idea when we can get our hands on this? I mean literally as in checking it out at Best Buy or some other store.
