The iPad 2 is a Sell Out

Chilax Apple fans, we're talking about Apple's iPad 2 tablet selling out, as opposed to being a sell out like _____ (insert your own celebrity here). According to Piper Jaffray analyst, Gen Munster, Apple sold some 400,000 to 500,000 of its second generation magical devices during its launch weekend. Compare that to the iPad 1, which sold 300,000 during its first weekend. Pretty impressive, no?

We braved the long line at Best Buy ourselves on Friday and managed to pluck one before they were all sold out (stay tuned for our upcoming official analysis). Lines were long no matter where buyers tried to get one, whether at Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Apple stores, Verizon, or AT&T.

What's even more remarkable about Munster's numbers, assuming they're accurate, is that they mostly represent first-day sales. In addition, he says that 70 percent of iPad 2 buyers were new to the iPad, compared with 23 percent of iPhone 4 buyers who were new to the iPhone at launch.

Want more stats? Munster says the iPad 2 attracted nearly equal numbers from both Mac and PC users at 51 percent and 49 percent, respectively. For the original iPad, that ratio was 74 percent / 26 percent.

Did you pick up an iPad 2 over the weekend? If so, what are you initial impressions? And if not, do you plan on picking up a tablet in the near future?
