The Decline Of Dell And The Resurgence Of HP

Since the release of this quarter's financial earnings, there has been some criticism towards Dell for their stinging 51% decline in quarterly profits. On the other hand, Hewlett-Packard posted stronger than expected earnings, raising its earnings per share for the fourth quarter in a row. Is it just "aggressive pricing" on Dell's part, or is Dell in need of a strategy change?

"Three years ago, people thought nothing could stop Dell, that it was unstoppable. It was the strongest company in the world, and HP, they were dead. This was a company that was broken, it couldn't be fixed," said Shaw Wu, an analyst at American Technology Research. "Well, guess what happened?" said Wu, who has a "buy" rating on Dell stock. "Sometimes it takes a management change. Maybe that's what Dell needs."
