Student Gamers Read And Study Less

A new study shows the effects of gaming on reading and study time amongst students 10-19 years old.  Not surprisingly these students shaved a little time off their studying and reading time to get in a few extra minutes with their favorite games.  Surprisingly they didn't often sacrifice much time with their families. for games

How much time to reading/study time are they missing out on?  Well boy gamers in the survey are said to have spent 30% less time reading while the girls who played games (They DO exist!) spent 34% less time doing their homework.
“Cummings and Elizabeth Vandewater at the University of Texas at Austin wanted to see how these games affect academic pursuits and social relationships.

They gathered data from a nationally representative sample of kids aged 10 to 19 in 2002 who tracked their activities on a random weekday and a random weekend day.

Of the 1,491 who participated, 534 adolescents or about 36 percent played video games. About 80 percent were boys.”
Of course, time spent studying isn’t the only, or even best, measure of a student.  The proof is in the marks, and even great marks don’t really mean that somebody is smart/successful or not; just do a little research on Einstein if you debate the validity of that statement.
