Sony Introduces VAIO S Series Notebook With Optional 15-Hour Battery
There used to be a season for laptop launches. Now, it's just one right
after the other. Sony is launching yet another new one this week with
the VAIO S Series, a revamped version of a classic that packs a thinner
chassis and an optional sheet battery that doubles battery life (up to
15 hours). Select S Series models sport elegant design in burnished
brown, jet black or platinum silver with magnesium and aluminum
materials, and the 13.3" form factor keeps it mobile enough for those
stuck on a coach-class airline seat.
The machine measures just 0.95-inches thin, weighs 3.8lbs. and offers a Core i7 processor. There's also Hybrid Graphics, an optional SSD and Intel's Turbo Boost Technology 2.0. You'll also get AMD's Radeon HD 6630 1GB graphics, and there's a 1600x900 widescreen display that makes the most of every inch. Illuminating keyboard keys, a built-in microphone / webcam, and Face-tracking abilities round things out. Unlike many ultraportables, Sony also makes it possible to watch Blu-ray Discs on select movies, and you can send those signals wirelessly via Intel's Wireless Display 2.0. The VAIO S Series will hit the pre-order stage this week with a starting price of $1350, and the optional "sheet battery" will mean an extra $150. But that's the price you pay to stay alive for an entire Hong Kong-Detroit flight!
