Sonic Solutions' RoxioNow Entertainment Platform Coming To Loads Of HDTVs

Sonic Solutions has been rapidly moving to expand their RoxioNow platform for quite some time; it's definitely been a focal point of the company, and with the heightened level of competition surrounding connected HDTVs, we can understand why. Now, the company has managed a deal with Trident, a company that produces system-on-chips (SoCs) for leading HDTV makers. Basically, this deal allows RoxioNow to be embedded onto any HDTV with a Trident SoC inside, and that's quite a few potential TVs.

RoxioNow's platform works to give consumers a wide variety of multi-media content over the Internet, including new-release movies and hit TV shows. With this partnership, it's safe to assume that RoxioNow will be a bundled option on numerous TVs throughout the holiday season and beyond. Trident's highly integrated, programmable SoC semiconductors act as the brains for DTV and other digital media displays, providing image processing and optimization for video and computer graphic signals. Sonic's broad implementation on device chipsets is expected to result in RoxioNow-powered storefronts appearing on over 95% of all connected BD and HDTV consumer electronics devices shipping over the next several years.

It's too early for the company to call out specific names, but expect to hear a lot more as the big-name makers start to take advantage of this near deal.
